Thinking of getting a Fitbit to act as my conscience lol! Who owns one, which model, do they work for you?

Can I assume you can programme other activities in - eg tell it I'm climbing on a horse or going for a swim?

It's a b*tch when you need to go to bed and realise you're about 400 steps off your target.

It makes you do strange things like running on the spot while you're cooking dinner.

(And wonder if you can attach it to the dog while you watch tv...)

Have a look at the Misfit Shine series too.

They're waterproof, and more have a wide range of jewelry accessories so they can be worn multiple ways, rather than a rubber wrist band

A lot of it's down to the app rather than the device.

Have a look at the wareable website for good reviews and comparisons

I've got a charge.. I take it off before I ride though as it still counts the steps and kilometers travelled, it looks great on the app!! But not a true summary x

I've got a TomTom Spark, it has a number of programs built in, you can't add your own. BUT....

What the programs do are quite generic. For example, for horse riding you could use the cycling program. This measures your heart-rate, time, speed and distance (via GPS). You can also name your workouts when you upload them to their website where you get graphs and analysis tools.

I would assume that Fit-Bit would offer similar solutions.

Anyone use a swimming tracker?

I like the look of the Fitbit Blaze as it has a few more apps and connectivity, but then sense kicks in. I've got this far not knowing how many steps I've taken and my heart rate - would it really make a difference?

I track distance traveled using strava in my phone, which is great as it does altitude etc too.

Seems a bit like a waste for me. Dunno.

We bought my mum one for her birthday as she does a lot of walking in her new job - she's amazed!!! I've been looking at getting one too

For me i never had any idea of my stats,, and i like the fact i can just wear it on my wrist and at the end of the day i just use my phone and it will tell me everything..

how many steps i walked and when, what the intensity level was. How my HR went up and how long to recover. It automatically calculates my activity levels. Tells me if im 'fat burning' or doing 'cardio' work outs

Will give me a buzz to shift off my arse n do something if im inactive for a while. I can sync with friends and challenge each other. I like the little awards it shows you when you reach a goal

love how i can reflect back on the start of my time using it and see just how bad i was.

It monitors my sleep (i did have sleep apnea) tells me how many times i was restless/awake.. my average nights sleep.

Wonder if they have thought about measuring sexual activities, as we know definitely burns off energy, but must be at different rates for each positions or BJ or oral.

Good thread , as I keep pondering getting one. The Apple Watch has some similar features to a Fitbit, so I understand.

I really like my Garmin for cycling and they have a waterproof watch version too.

Damn yes, would prefer a swimproof one but I want to sync it to computer as well as phone and the Shine won't do that

I guess I can just tell the Fitbit I'm going swimming for 40 mins crawl, I don't need to know exact heartrate or anything, I'm not that fanatic.

Misfit have an app that synced to win 8.1 and can pair the shine via Bluetooth

We both love ours. Mrs Ppa has a s fitbit one, or fit-tit as I call it as she wears it on her bra. She's gone from no walking to averaging 15k steps a day since Xmas. Oh and whilst I'd not recommend it it's even coped with a dunk in the washing machine.

I (Mr D) has Garmin Vivosmart HR, which I wear on my right arm (blokes note, take it off before you have a swift wank as It counts each stroke as a step!). It's waterproof, tracks heart rate (interesting to wear it during our last trip to VA!) and sleep.

We both love em and would wholly reccomend.

Ooops, one of the reviews I read was obviously wrong. Looking at this review I still think the Fitbit flex is the one I am going to go for - it displays more of the data I want. My chum showed me his calories out vs food in charts and the '750 a day deficit' approach and I want to try that!

"Shall I get slate or pink? "

Pink, but only if it's really really in your face PINK!

As an aside, Ive just read an interesting article on the iWatch. The guy basically denounced smart watches as being a bit crap for everything. Didn't touch on fitness tracking though. Search Gizmodo for the article.

I just bought a Jawbone Up2 for my daughter for £39, on Amazon (that's £50 off).

And they're so much more aesthetically pleasing than the Fitbit

I use myfitnesspal to bully myself into hitting my macros but you could use it for.self shaming too. Syncs with most trackers.

My only advice is get a heart rate monitor one, so much more useful.

That is a bargain! I like the design - but it does not seem to come with the facility to sync with the desktop computer?

The Tomtim runner series are waterproof so can track swimming. They also have running, cycling, treadmill, indoor cycling, gym and freestyle (nor really sure what that is...think it's walking). There are a few types depending on what you want, one has a built in HR monitor, one has built in music storage that you can play through Bluetooth headphones but I have just the runner 2. As well as being a GPS tracker it also tracks your steps throughout the day so is like a pedometer as well.

But they're ugly

Even as a man I wouldn't want one on my wrist

They're a series bit of kit for serious money. I'd rather get a Motorola 360 or Samsung Galaxy S2 smart watch
