I can have a child, own a home, drive a car, be married, fly an aeroplane, own a firearm in the UK.. but i cant buy cuttlery in Dunelm... haha

Knife crime is at ridiculous proportions too. The public ask for legislation we get it and still complain. Twenty five is the id range decided on, based on stats and yes innocent cutlery purchasers are inconvenienced but I'd rather sale and purchase rules were strict than another of our children stabbed.

I drove my car into a petrol station and filled up, went to buy some cigarettes for a friend and got ID'd (age limit at the time was 16).. made no sense at all haha

I actually wasn't able to buy skin cream in the Asda pharmacy the other week!

Woman behind the till thought I should have a series of investigations done by my doctor. Not that she had any medical qualification whatsoever.

Imaginer trying to buy something really dangerous like a Chapstick. Woooooh

You ask what the country is coming to....for you the situation hasn't changed as you were a child of Nine when the 1997 Knives Act came into force.

Be interested to see if you agree that ANYONE should be legally entitled to buy knives whatever their age?

Down in sleepy Dartmouth it might be ok, but ours laws apply to EVERY town and city in England and Wales and people who live in inner cities might be in more danger than people who are fortunate enough to live in a more peaceful part of the country.

Yes that is understandable for knives of a certain size anything over 4 inches i.e hunting knives and combat one's. But come on for domestic use that is stupid. You do know that you can stab someone with a pencil and cause just ae much damage shall we stop them next!!

I cant see the big deal in carrying id to be honest. You drive so you have id. How long does it take to show id, a blink of an eye. I woud sooner be id'd for everything than stabbed or something.

My son is 20, gets id'd all the time for various things but he hasnt known any different, its always been there

So how does this law stop young people obtaining cutlery? We have a whole drawer full and home - if any of the kids took one we wouldn't know.

Should we need a licence and keep the cutlery in an approved locked case? Then count them every night to ensure they're all still there?

Yes company policy is to ask for ID to buy knives, but also company policy in dunelm mill to ask for ID to return knives bought from said shop using ID.

Work that one out!

But the majority of knives used in crime, are knives from home cutlery drawer. So maybe we should keep a record of what knives we keep at home.

Understand these laws are for public safety, and totally agree with them.

end of the say its the discretion of the person serving to ask for ID whether it be asda challange 25 or coop challange 21 or whatever....its there record if caught.......

the laws on these type of things make the person at the till personally liable to a fine and or imprisoment not just the company / store owner

Therefore it is likely some staff are over zealous when it comes to these things,

My pesrsonal experince of this was when the cashier in a local shop asked me for ID for Alcohol, she is a friend, knows exactly how old i am as we went to school together, share teh same birthday and have held joing birthday parties in the local pub together

Asked her about it, and she said if manager looked at CCTV and saw i had not given ID she woudl be introuble, i was 42 at the time and look it if not more
