"Why is retro gaming so popular? Is it because modern games lack gameplay and are focusing too much on DLC and micropayment? Or maybe because it reminds us of our childhood and brings back memories? Right, I'm off to play Sonic ![]() I would say it's for the childhood but also just because they was simpler no dlcs no online just you and the game golden axe street fighter streets of rage just some of my favs

"As a child of the 80's, it's when you realise that kids these days are calling games from the PS1 and 2 retro that gets me! GTA3, vice city and San Andreas are now all considered retro, yet I remember them all coming out-GTA I remember seeing for the first time, top down graphics and a little red blob for blood back in 1997 and GTA:SA I remember picking up in my 2nd year of college in 2001. I tried introducing my kid brother to sonic and he looked bored, and went back to battlefield. So I tried to point him to the original battlefield set in 1942, but trying to find all the updates and patches it needs to play, he again went straight back to the modern stuff. " I can see that. I'm a child of the 80s too. Still love playing the MegaDrive sonic games, streets of rage, world cup Italia 90... I play modern games too (totally addicted to fallout 4 right now). I tried going back to some late 90s/early 00s games like soldier of fortune, vice city and the like, but just didn't enjoy them. I loved them and spent hours in them at the time, but that era sits just in the wrong poi t of oldskool simplicity and modern immersiveness. ![]()

"3D Ant Attack. That game would be terrifying on next gen now" Hated that game. I was crap at it and it was the one game my sister was good at. I can still hear the "paralyzed an ant" sound...

"I agree with the game play comments. The machines couldn't do bugger all graphics wise so the writer's energy and imagination had to go into gameplay. So usually something which looked simple could be both very complicated if needs be, and also very rewarding(and took ages to get anywhere near to getting within a sniff of being completed). Don't think I ever completed a single Speccy game, yet still kept coming back for more! What's the best Spectrum emulator out there then? Got itchy fingers.. ![]() Lets not forget the worse thing about playing a game on a spectrum.... https://youtu.be/mbumzCdw4Ts

" Very much agree with this, old games were much better in my opinion, as they did require a huge amount of imagination on the developers part in order to successfully create a convincing fantasy within the confines of such limited technology, most games today feel exceptionally bland and uninteresting by comparison.

I thought Target Renegade was better than the first one, but the first one is still brilliant today. The time traveling 3rd one was just OK

It didn't take long to complete compared to San Andreas for example (best game ever IMO) The online for GTA was very good but then the matchmaking turned shite and it became hard to find good lobbies. I've not played it for fucking ages!
