I wonder how many realise that our patron saint St George was probably born in Turkey.

The son of a Palestinian mother and a Roman father and was a soldier in the Roman army.

Bloody foreigners, not coming over here, patronising our nation!

It makes me laugh when people start going on about other nationalities celebrating their days, St Patrick's day, St David's day and so on and so forth and saying St George never gets celebrated.

So go and celebrate it then, no one is stoping you, and then the next argument is "you can't otherwise you get called a racist " that's the right wingers fault frankly, and I for one have only complained about a St George's day event once, when I took my daughter to an event, only to have to leave when two blokes with 4 cans of cider, and fewer brain cells, started abusing an Asian family, it's not the flag or the Saint that people have a problem with, it's the morons that attach themselves to it.

A good friend of mine is organising the parade near me, and he has gone to great pains to keep the racists away, but they still turn up, it's a shame really

Yes.

You forgot that he was martyred in Libya and is the patron saint of Georgia (duh), Portugal and Romania.

And suitably international figure for 21st century England.

Sad that extreme idiots who have no idea of history or facts, manage to hijack something like being 'English', ruining it for everyone else.

St George was the patron saint of the Angevin line, so came to England with Henry II - who also brought the badge of the lions (first two, then later three lions).
