"Sorry if there's already been threads about this but I've been listening to his music all day today and I'm still so upset about him dying so suddenly. He was such a big part of my life, my identity, my heart and soul, I felt like part of me has died with him..." You're definitely not the only one x

"It's strange because, for example, his name never came up in any of the music threads - yet all of a sudden he has been propelled to iconic status again. I don't mean this explicitly directed at people in this thread, just in general. I suppose it all amounts to the same at the end of the day. " As I said in the RIP thread, he was my earliest musical memory and definitely my favourite artist of all time.... But I get what you mean, people hardly mentioned his songs on forum threads

"I find it strange that when someone famous dies there's all this weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. People become bereft and act like it was their own family member. This isn't aimed at anyone in this thread, I just don't get the ott outpouring of grief for someone you don't know. " I wonder if for some it's linked to memories. Prince played at an occasion they hold dear or a song takes them back to a particular time in their life.

" It's tragic when someone who brought pleasure to millions dies and true artists have a relationship with fans that makes some think they do know them. If people are sad and upset and want to grieve that's up to them. I like tonnes of musicians certainly too much to mention on these forums so perhaps people can still really like an artist and not mention them? Just a thought.. Ps I'm not particularly a massive Prince fan but he was part of my growing up and I certainly enjoyed his earlier music.

Of course people can do as they wish *I* don't understand mass hysteria grief for someone you don't know. Especially as we're all dying!

Some people like showing emotion some don't.

Prince has been part of my life for over 30 years. That's before I met my ex, before I had my kids. His music has been there through good times and bad. And then there were the live shows. Phenomenal. I will miss the fact that I will never see him again. But his music lives on. RIP

" It is strange, but I think princess just operated on a subconscious level, I looked through my music collection and found I've got more of his work than I thought I had, it just felt like he was always there, and always going to be there, like his existence was like the existence of air, you only miss it when it's gone, I could have gone months without listening to prince, but now he's dead I can't stop playing his records. I've never placed him on any of my top artists, or guitarists, and now I can't for the life of me think why

I still cry when I watch Lennon interviews. I feel very sad about Prince. There are some public figures you gravitate towards and feel a closeness to through their art. I find this especially with musicians as their lyrics are a window to their soul. It does feel like grieving, although you may never have known them, you feel a personal connection. Prince's Gett Off was always the last song I played whilst going to a FAB meet. Got me in the mood every time, and for that I thank him.
