"It's right and fair that they should pay tax at the 50% I pay, i think all companies should".

.

.

That makes a refreshing change

Over what threshold?

Cause a flat 50% would be insane.

And given how he got fucked over by apple/jobs he may not be the most impartial.

"He doesn't have control over the company anymore so with good accountants the will legally never pay that much"

Apple has huge amounts of cash reserves outside the us it cant bring home because ig it does it will have to pay tax on it.

Hundreds of billions iirc.

Aurprised the us gov hasnt done a sly deal like 50% off the toral bill if they repatriate the lot

.

I think it was a personal statement about the unfairness of corporate taxation, he thinks apple dodge to much tax and he added that it's pretty standard for multi nationals!.

.

He did have a little dig at jobs by saying "i was never in it for the money, that was Steve's primary driver".

.

He's a very clever guy

.

Trump has said many times in his speeches that he will introduce a small 5%ish tax to allow them to repatriate the dosh

Its one thing to say it and quite another to do it. Apple wont pay 50% tax until they are forced to.And they along with all the other global corps wont ever be forced to.

Yeah why not. Just add it to the cost of the phone. The gullible apple fans will generally more for less anyway

He actually points that out!.

Once a company gets big enough, it can use it's huge resources to employ many people to go through every single piece of small print in every country!.

Now imagine if apple spent those huge resources it spends mitigating tax to the minimal amount (they admitted their Irish division pays around 2% tax) and instead puts the extra money into R&D ... We could be even further down the line of technological advancement and have a consumer base with the actual spare cash to purchase those advancements

50% tax on what? Defined by what? Collected by who?

Until the entire world simplifies and unifies tax codes, a statement like this is about as meaningless as meaningless can be.

Would you be happy if Apple ONLY paid tax in the US and nowhere else in the world? What use is that to anyone outside the US?

I think he was talking about US apple taxation as he's a US citizen.

However the same would apply to apple UK, I mean why would they only pay tax in the US?

I was thinking all companies that pay tax just pass that tax onto us anyway.

That's meant to be the whole point of competition, so that you can't just pass along every cost plus your giant slice added on!.

Of course that's pretty hard work running a business like that, much easier to just collude

The big money makers (who would be contributing the most) are the same 10 companies who own everything branded. There's not really any competition about.

I was buying locally things i can but noticed half the stuff was branded anyway (which defeated the purpose of shopping locally).

So have started using ebay to buy everything i can for the cheap prices and to avoid brands. eg. i was going to primark for clothes, and local shoe zone for shoes, B&Ms or poundland for household stuff, now i get them on ebay.

i'm not buying branded goods from ebay.

they're not labelled, and not the kind of stuff you'd see in brand shops round here either (which is good coz most of the fashionable items round here aren't my style).
