how frustrating are GP'S. .just been again for third time and still they still say the same thing and won't refer me to a specialist.

Went through this yesterday the Hospital couldn't refer people directly to the people in the room next door. So I had to wait for a letter to my GP and then book an appointment to see them before being referred back to the hospital. Gave up called BUPA and all sorted over the phone. It's ridiculous.

What gets me is the workers are just as frustrated as I am.

Got my 2 referrals I needed recently in 15 mins

I have small case of alopacea, it's only a few cm wide but I don't want it getting any bigger and it has already got worse.

My uncle says there is steroid cream that you can take and he is a doctor and says it's works well.

I will try this online doc. Thing I think !

There are many things wrong with the US health system but one thing that's good is that you can go direct to a specialist.

GP's being the gateway can be very frustrating.

Generally if it's going to get bigger it will, found the cream not much use tbh. After that they offer you injections in your scalp which I didn't fancy trying. So just ignored them lol. All my initial patches have grown back tho within 12 months.

Looking at the NHS website and the symptoms the OP has subsequently described I think you may be right. Most treatments are over the counter or can be prescribed by a GP.

I rang my Gp to book in last week because of severe abdominal pain and was told nothing available for three weeks. Ended up ringing 111 who phoned my Gp and told them they must see me within 2 hours. Still off work sick now, on strong pain meds and awaiting surgery for gallstones

Quite a lot only offer a certain amount of emergency appointments. The out of hours GP service via 111 is the better option for a lot of areas.

I just rang and asked for a "phone appointment ", they rang 1 day later and asked me to come in 2 days later to see my gp. Funny how they they find a slot, because when I rang first time around they said no appointments until middle of may, really !!!

If you call between 8-9 am you can be offered an emergency appointment. I started calling at 8am and got through 15 minutes later, they were all taken. I was offered a telephone call after 4.30pm that day. With the severity of the pain I was in I was left with only two options, call 111 or go to accident and emergency.

Miraculously they were able to give me an appointment with my Gp after I called 111

Knowing the health services in Greece and here, their both good. However, Greece health service resources lack behind the UK. Sure you can get seen quickly in Greece, I've witnessed it with my own eyes, only if you bring along some cash to tip the doctor. You can do the same here... It's called private healthcare.

I'm always amazed to see peopel how will take the word of someone they know or something they read on the internet over that of a trained doctor, just becasue they don't like what they're being told.

And if you can't get an appointment, don't blame the doctor - blame the fucking governement or stripping them of funding.

I am not saying they do a bad job, pretty much all my family are doctors, gps or surgeons, but are in Greece which is unfortunate.

But agree it totally sucks that the government are stripping the NHS of so much funding and expecting so much from junior doctors !.they need to sit back and look at it again. They cannot expect everyone to go private for everything. Although the way it's going all health care will be private.

what's the online doc thing? i need it.

went to my doctors this morning (they called me in because of my blood test results) and apparently there's sign of joint problems (he called them markers), which i have been telling them about my joint problems for a few years now, but they always say nothing can be done and i've to go back for more tests in 3 months...what was the fucking point of that?

You people get to SEE a doctor???? I have to ring up no later than 8.30am. The receptionist will then pass your name and number to a doctor who rings you up to see if you need to actually come to the surgery. They will not give an approximate call time.

If you work you are screwed (if you cant take calls at work like me) unless you take a day off sick/holiday and I can't book holidays!

Primary care is unfortunately politically driven.

The chronic underfunding and lack of resources means they generally make it difficult for access. Quite often, you may just see a nurse every time you have a cough or need a diabetes check!

Also, referring to a specialist is costly to GPs as per the national tariff, so there is a slight reluctance on their part.

Again, all POLITICALly driven.

How does that work, do you like have a consultation via video link? I quite like that idea, I only ever really go to the GP for a referral anyway.

Your uncle could courier the medication to you for less than the price of your travels surely? Importing prohibited stuff wouldn't be permitted but regular meds are something that you can.
