Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I've got the urge to learn something new so I've been searching short course options. I have found Anger Without Aggression and Burlesque so far. I haven't made it to C yet.

What do you fancy learning?

Good going. I'm rubbish at languages because I get frustrated that I know I am writing and saying things with lots of errors.

I was challenged to learn the Russian alphabet last year. It only started to make sense once I got some words under my belt.

It's a really hard question...

Um. I dunno, learning is a creeping process of combining thousands, if not millions of pieces of information or areas of interest in to a coherent view of the world.

Like a wise man once said, "The only thing I know is little I really know."

It's only £64 for Burlesque. I'm just worried I would end up with a huge outlay on new outfits after the lessons.

Both are available very close to me but stained glass windows has a waiting list.

Book binding would be useful - but I doubt I would do a course.

Case in point - last summer the kids broke one of the trees in the back garden, split in two a 15yr old libernum. Little sods. Thought half of it would go.

I'm ok at gardening but not a tree surgeon.

I just YouTube'd how to fix a broken tree and with the requisite tools mended the split.

It's spring, both halves of the tree are budding.

Strike one for the internet.

I taught myself to crochet with the help of a couple of YouTube videos and a beginner's book, now there's really not much i can't crochet.

I've made/bound books, dolls (including doing the whole head of hair), I've made friends with my sewing machine and im currently making a few Steampunk outfits, I've re-upholstered vintage arm chairs but what I'd love to try is glass work and corsetry but I would want to do proper courses for those. I'd also love to learn more sign language but the courses are more than I can afford.

"I've done loads of short and longer courses ranging from Greek through to Patchwork and Quilting and Tarot and Palmistry, Archaeology, belly dancing...you name it I've turned up at 7pm on a Tuesday evening and done it "

I've been surprised to find many are now available at 10am on a Sunday.

I would like to learn Italian. It is such a beautiful language.

I want to learn how to crochet...for those who question what you do with all the things you make - you're missing the point. The enjoyment comes from creating something, and using it/ gifting it etc.

I don't believe it exists but there are courses being run at this mythical time. I won't be joining them.

Does the school have a VLE you can access? There might be things there you can use to keep up and get one step ahead.

That is a good idea. The school website is very good but I've never thought of looking for that. I have revision books that I'm working through but it can be tricky

When I'm helping with homework I get us to look at the VLE together to work it out if I'm struggling.

Central

There are a fair few universities around the world who provide some of their courses free - perhaps older courses etc. You won't get the support that students do nor graduate. But a great opportunity to dip your ties into interesting subject materials.

Just finishing my MBA. Booked on my next course already for sept, which is a Future CEOs course, but thinking about fitting in a Prince2 over the summer. Then, just for the heck of it, and because it may be useful to help a career transition in 10 years or so, a PG Cert in HE

I'm mad!

There's lots of ukeing going on. It's a lot of fun going to all the uke things and a nice mixture of men and women.

Actually, men, if you would like to meet lots of lovely women for more than NSA then get yourself a uke.

Yeah, it's been a regimen I've been wanting to adopt at work for a while into my teams. Giving myself structure. Hoping I can do it quickly, using online course.... I've got the various manuals/syllabus already,- just need to actually put aside a week or so and get it ingrained in my thick head

I'm not knocking Prince2 as I'm about to re-do my qualification. Just bear in mind that the Practitioner qualification has to be renewed every 5 years to keep it current, at present.

I've just completed cake decorating, baking and chocolate courses in the past 3 months. I'm now trying to hone these new skills.
