For curiosity and not a critism whinging question...

We call it a sex site ( rightly or wrongly)as that is what we are here looking for but I know lots of people don't like it called that, so....

Why do people think it is insulting to call a swinging site a sex site?

I think calling it a sex site implies payment for service.

Although sex maybe the initial intent, it is also used as a social network.

Just my opinion.

I don't. Although maybe some get irritated as it's not specific enough. I mean, 'sex site' could include porn, bdsm, lovehoney, escorts...the list could go on!

We think it's a 'swingers site' and stuff like plentyoffish is a sex site, or a site dedicated to escorts is a sex site.

Offended ?? No, but it's always a good line to use against somebody who thinks they are on here for as many shags as they ask for

No that is definately not the case. We are members of another site which you have to pay a minimum of £45 a year to use chat. I would say there are more timewasters on that site and people tend to play less. Most of our meets are found on here!!

timewasters not only have time to waste but also some money to waste also....so im not convinced that paying a small fee as you suggested is the way to go. i never really bother with the chat rooms so i could gladly miss out on that facility. The forums.....well thats a different matter!!

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. I think it is a sex site. Swinging is sexually related. The photos on people's profile are often of a pornographic nature. Swinging parties often involve group sex. Some people are more into the dating side of it which is fine, but to me, that doesn't alter the fact that the focus of swinging is sex. I don't know why people want to pretend it's not, I find that a bit weird to be honest. It's almost like folks are in denial.

dunno really, spose it is very subjective.

The phrase "sex site" has connotations for me, personally, tends to make me think of pic collectors and raincoats, but it's probs just my subconcious programming coming out.

the thing is that I think a lot of people do not need to come here for sex. Many already have that, there is something else, an understanding and a sharing that some peeps are after, a joining in enjoyment and pleasure that makes for something different and very stimulating.

To call it a "sex site" is too broad and too genral, in my opinion.

I am still none the wiser into understanding.

Although the answer from Be nice was the closet to something I was expecting swingers to answer.

So it seems to boil down to a sex site sounding unsavoury because it is seen as a negative.

It was said that swingers are fussy and vet their meets/do socials first, make a connection with the person you are meeting etc.....this happens on sex sites too......so I suppose in essence they are the same, but just with different names as people are looking for sex with people they get on with.

I was on another pay site for a while and a guy from there recommended this one. He said don't be put off by the title of the site - it was set up by swingers, originally, but all are welcome. I'll have to ask him if he still thinks that.

I think if we are into a certain aspect of the site ie forums or chat or meeting singles for sex, then we tend to forget there are thousands of others using the site in a different manner to achieve much the same result. To me it is a sex site in the sense you can find people to interact with on various levels, all with a sexual theme. I personally have chatmates where we have never spoken about sex at all. There are no right or wrong ways of interacting on this site - just a the way that suits your needs and those of the same ilk.

In terms of time I often wonder... how many members while away the hours just typing in the forums or communicating in chat as opposed to actually going out and physically meeting for sex. I suspect its a lot.

The popularity of both chat and forum, the amounts of verifications in profiles showing meets do take place from those who do not frequent either chat or forum, would indicate this is a pretty well rounded site for catering to everyone's needs and choices, no matter what its _iewed as ie sex site or swinging site. It hits the button doesnt it?

Although I ( Mrs ) likes the forums and chat, the people we have met on any sites we are on have normally come from people who don't use either and just mailed us...and if we are honest, we like it that way.

and a p.s. I noticed there is an offshoot fab site for gay and bisexual people. I have writte to admin and suggested it could prove popular if they were to create another site for non-swingers and leave this site for the purists. What do others think? Would you like to have the atmosphere and set up of this site but live without the stigma of 'not really being a swinger' and all of the negative opinions your choices can bring? Or do you think this site only works because of the diversity of sexual needs?

Well Im a seasonal user of the forums (long dark winter months!) and I find that when I am contributing I get less private mail from others who don't use the forums. All my meets have come from others who don't really 'like' the forums and have said it puts them off a lot of people who do post. So the forums can put you out there I guess but they can also rub a lot up the wrong way! I'm like you Mrs R I like to keep the two separate and swing with those from offline scene.
