DOMS

Delayed onset muscle soreness sounds like a minor issue but I'm experiencing sheer hell.

Do you get/had it? My angelic personal trainer refers to it as if it's a scratch. But my body has been seemingly turned inside out, with all muscles sprinkled with salt and hit with sledge hammers.

Branch chain amino acids are mentioned as a possibility for helping to repair them. Pfft! I've foam-rollered myself.

I could understand if I was going into the olympics again but I'm just a very part time person who likes some fitness.

I'd perhaps hurt less if a sadistic Dom beat me up, instead of just a little workout.

Proper hydration and warming up/down would help. Apparently grapefruit juice, but I never tried that. When I was running 10 miles daily, I'd just take ibuprofen if it was bad enough. I get it more when I exercise now than when I exercised regularly, so perhaps you need to do whatever it is more regularly.

Anywhere other than my legs I quite like the feeling especially on the chest.

Nice hot bath and always worse on the second day I find.

Love DOMS. It's the way you know you've worked hard enough.

But rolling is good...but lots of protein seems to help me.

I took a protein self-mixed milk drink as I finished today - so will see how it goes.

Thanks for the tips guys

I'm working with a new personal trainer who's especially vigorous - my second session today. Really focused on warming up and some stretching to start with thorough stretching and cooling down at the end. I've done a lot of exercise in my life but nothing has given me DOMS close to this week, all good until the day after the session. I felt like I'd been in a serious accident, which lasted 5 days. My upcoming sessions will have shorter gaps between them - my next is on Monday.

I did some foam rolling and took hot baths most days. I didn't manage to get massage though - apart from a little I gave myself. I may seek a little therapy in London tomorrow.

On the plus side - I'm not as stupidly fit as I was, so I can only improve from here. I'm really happy to have doms such that I can tell I've been working - but feeling like I'm recovering from a car crash is something else!

If you're doing running/cross trainers, I found rolling the IT band a huge relief. It's a difficult one to get right though but helped the most.

If you expreience really bad DOMS, then its usually because your diet isn't on point. Are you eating enough protien? - you really want to be consuming 0.8g protien per 500g lean body mass per day.
