Over the rainbow, under the bridge

How many of you have requested parcels to be left in a safe place only to find a 'sorry you were out. Collect your parcel at the arse end of nowhere. Opening times are 10 minutes on Friday mornings every other week ' card?

So bloody annoying.

I've even had a card posted when I was actually in! Bugger didn't ring the bell. And he had to walk around my car to post it so it was obvious I was in.

My neighbours take my parcels in,I take theirs. It's so much easier, and there isn't a safe place in my area.

Mine do too if they're ever asked. But it seems the delivery guys can't be bothered asking them.

I found that re-requesting a delivery online at a time convenient to me, using the reference number written on the card with Royal Mail, made them realise they had to keep bringing it back. They learned to try harder to deliver first time

Hermes I have no problem with, but I live very rural and very safe, so they leave it anywhere really.

Frisky used to deliver for Yodel to pay for her studies...

She said the she would often deliver to houses with 4 or 5 cars on the drive but no one was in...

She would also knock, get no reply , try a couple of the neighbours, walk back and write the card. As she posted it, the occupier would open the door and accuse her of not knocking...

With a lot of companies you can choose to collect from places like Halford and Argos...

The lounge window was also open and the telly was on. Seriously, it was blindingly obvious I was in.

It's not the first time either. I could see one morning that someone had come to the door from looking through the bay window. I expected a knock or ring but nothing. When I opened the door the postie was already writing the card. He hadn't knocked or anything. My house is small. I sit no more than 8 feet from my front door.

He looked surprised and pissed off. I spotted the card and asked if he had a parcel. He said yes but I couldn't see one. He'd left it in the van. He never even intended to deliver it. He had only brought the card to the door.

I reported that incident. Nothings changed .

I work in the parcel industry ( not one of the companies mentioned in this thread ).

Sadly a lot of people get the wrong idea about parcel delivery companies ...there are times when the supplier states the parcel CANNOT be left safe , MUST be signed for by person on the order ( hence drivers won't try neighbours etc ) , I assure you that most companies would like to try and deliver at first attempt as A) waste of fuel & time having to reattempt another day....B) depots are not storage depots for undelivered items....its a security risk having valuable items hanging around .

Out of 500 deliveries per day it's on average 20 deliveries are "carded" & most are caused by people ordering goods but not expecting them to arrive so quickly and hence nobody home to accept the goods.

Tho I do accept some companies are better / worse than others ....its all down to price ....the cost of parcel deliveries has gone down as customers expect a top notch service but don't like to pay for it , either directly or the cost being "hidden" in the purchase price of the goods being ordered.

Sadly the "bad" companies tar the good ones with the same brush in the general publics minds....like the comment in this thread " they're all shite " ....I assure you not ALL are .

Gets off ones soap box now lol.

It's not an attack on the entire industry. My regular postie is great. And I'm aware that some parcels cannot be left in a safe place. I'm talking about when they can be or when cards have been left when I was actually and obviously in the house.

I've picked up parcels from the sorting office which did not need a signature and which clearly had my safe place printed on the front.

I know that it's not necessarily an easy job and that most do a great job. Maybe it's the area I live in. The queue for picking up parcels at my nearest sorting office is often (nearly always) out of the door and into the street. It is a real issue here.

Please don't take this thread personally.

From other companies, yes it can be trick. However, I never have a problem with the Royal Mail. I give the postie a good tip every Christmas and we have a perfect understanding regarding parcels and so on.

I'm pretty lucky where I live with all deliveries so far being left on the step... My regular postie opens the door and puts things in the porch!! And often delivers signed for items which is a risk for him but he obviously trusts our area

My work hours are such that I never see mine. But I have lovely neighbours who are more than happy to take in parcels and the wife is nearly always in as she childminds her grandchildren.

Our postman used to sign for our parcels if we weren't in and leave them in the greenhouse but a new manager stopped that and now we have to go and collect from the sorting office.

I've just waited in for 3 days solid for a delivery due between Tues and Thurs. It was despatched on Tues, so would have expected it by now and I have to go out tomorrow morning

A friend of mine chased after the postman after he carded her without knocking when she was in. He hadn't even got the parcel, he was simply carding everyone. She complained in writing, but nothing happened.

I guess it varies, mostly my stuff gets delivered ok and whilst there may be a queue at the Royal Mail collection depot, they're pretty quick.

Hey no probs at all, I totally see where you are coming from and sympathise with your frustration , and I didn't take your comments in a harsh way.....

From the way you have described the situation you have experienced I'd be hopping mad too.

From the way you describe it it would appear to be a "royal mail / parcel force " related delivery , I have never worked for them so can't speak from experience of their processes but I can only guess that it comes down to volume of parcels/ & or cost and so they may be " cut corners" and possibly have the wrong idea of customer service " not my parcel, not my problem" so to speak , which sadly gives a bad impression generally to the industry.

Where I work a customer can collect their parcel 24hrs a day ( apart from Sundays ) or request a suitable day & time for redelivery , all at no extra cost.....hence why my comment earlier that we try to deliver at 1st attempt as it saves fuel/ time AND gives good customer care which in the long run ensures our long term job security.....

Lol I sound like a salesman lol....I must get out more lol.

I had an Amazon delivery man open my front door a few months ago and put the parcel in my living room before I had chance to even answer the door - I was furious and told him and Amazon exactly that!!

Scared life outta me! Amazon paid for a Yale lock on my door as an apology so nobody can do that again

It is so frustrating, happened to me a few times, like you - often I'm in! I've had a few items just thrown over the fences too, broken a few things.

When I've complained they either send the exact items again, or just dispute it then refund me eventually. I don't know much about delivery drivers etc, but it seems like it's a job that has got poor customer service from my experiences.

It wasn't the first time. I'd accept it if it was a one off. Besides I have CCTV and alarm stickers on t the window and front door after being burgled. Not the kind of person to leave a downstairs window open. Seriously he knew I was there.
