Over the rainbow, under the bridge

I recently adopted a Maine Coon cat whose owner had developed an allergy to him. I've had cats before but this guy is the oddest cat I've ever had. Firstly, he's about double the size of a normal cat. Last time he was weighed he was 6.4kgs and that was a while ago. He's still growing so he's probably heavier now.

He doesn't meow he kind of makes quiet chirruping noises. He will beg for treats and will play fetch (when he's in the mood - he's still a cat after all).

Any odd behaviour from your pets?

Mine thinks she's a dog. She fetches too. And steals my post, runs to the door when the buzzer goes and loves a brush. Weirdo.

Mine loves a brush to begin with and then turns into a mincing machine! He's very dog like and shakes himself off if he gets wet just like a dog. He doesn't fetch the post though!

One of our two cats opens doors by jumping up at the handles ! She often scares me by appearing on our bed at night.

Another I had as a child used to walk to school with me - hopping across gardens parallel to me on the pavement.

I think mine's a bit too dim to work out door handles. He paws at them and is certainly tall enough to easily reach them. He just can't figure out how they work.

One of my dogs was abused when she was young (we adopted her) and she has tons of weird habits because of it. She will avoid you for hours if you accidentally sneeze or cough because she's terrified of it.

She also likes to lean against a wall instead of standing up for herself.

Haha! My cat doesn't know how to be a mincing machine. She'd let me rub her tummy all day long and then nudge me for more when I stop. Proper weirdo!

Sounds a proper character! I used to have a Staffie who loved chewing huge rocks and bricks. I could never work out where he was getting them from.

One of my cats/kittens plays fetch, is always stealing things he shouldn't and wakes me up cleaning my face! I love it when they have personalities but would prefer it if he didn't clean my ears so often! x

Well if he's coming out for food it should be easy. Bait the trap with his food and put it where he normally goes to feed.

My old fat cat Lola does weird loud meows for ages to go out then I open the door and if there's a slight breeze or hint of wetness she give me a 'fuck that' look and slopes off back to the living room to sleep off the trauma

She does cheer me up with a meow that sounds like a hello every morning though

I've got a cat who chases his tail, goes for the mail, opens the cupboard door and sits at it until we give him his treats, has got to go in to out toilet after we've been in just to check it, but also feels the need to attack me now and again be it my head or clinging on to my back lol.

Mine doesn't seem to mind bad weather so much. He actually just sits in the middle of the lawn curled up in the rain. Had a lot of cats but never one this quirky.

I had a border collie who "smiled" and liked beer( probably linked?). Once I had a really bad day at work, got soaked walking to work by a lorry and big puddle combo, then no breaks, finished at 10pm so 15hr day.I Walked home in the snow & drizzle to find my poor mut had crapped in the hall because my son who was staying at his mums at the time had forgotten to come over and let him out! I swore..not at the dog but at the situation... dog ran off thinking he had done wrong paddling crap around the house. 20mins later tidied up crap , disinfected floor and dog feet. Though sod it lets have a pint. So dog fetched his lead and we walk to the pub him off the lead. When we got there I order my pint had a sip then thought hmm I actually need a pee so I put the dog on his lead and tied him to the table. I went for a pee and when I came back the pub was silent but everyone was looking at me and then burst out laughing.. my dog was sitting there I kid you not grinning and wagging his tail having d*unk most of my pint! So soaked, over worked, cold wet, shat on and beer stolen by my dog... not a good day

My ginger cat, Harry keeps tapping the glass panel to the side of the front door whenever he want to come in. He does use the cat flap on the back door, he just prefers to be let in this way.

Maine coon cats are a wonderful breed, my mum had one.

Very intelligent and definitely not afraid of water! Ours used to sit with his tail in the sink while you tried to wash up then shake his tail at you when you moved him!!

Be careful of the slugs in the tummy fur tho, as they don't mind the rain the tend to pick up a few critters along the way!!

He's a bugger for bringing in huge chunks of garden in his belly fur. Sometimes it's so bad I have to cut it out. I've broken one brush on him already!

I have one that is very Maine Coon like. She would follow me in and out of the house round the yard and down the road to the fields like a dog, was very aggressive and territorial and would pin a gun dog down in the corner of the hay room if they dared come in her stables!
