So - whether it be tea or coffee - do you put the milk in before or after?

Does it make a difference to the brew?

I know what I think to be right but want your opinions please?!

If your pour boiling water onto coffee it burns in. Optimum temp is between 75/81 degrees for tea and coffee. But tea put boiling water on bag allow to brew for 3/5 minutes add milk and drink

Tea requires boiling water to brew properly, whereas boiling water scalds coffee and causes a bitter taste.

So milk in first for coffee, but water first for tea.

Tea = water then milk

Coffee = milk then water, however if I'm making black coffee then a bit of cold water then boiled water.

I find pouring boiled water on coffee burns it.

if it's yea afterwards then you know how strong the tea is. If it's coffee we both drink it black.

And when making coffee I always put milk in first because if you pour boiling water over coffee it makes the coffee bitter

Well that's what I saw on TV don't know if it's true or not cause I don't really drink coffee unless it's a latte

If just making a cup of tea, the teabag goes in first, then the water then after a few minutes the milk. If you put the milk in too soon it clogs the pores in the bag.

I like to treat myself to a full pot from time to time and I believe that for optimum taste the hot tea should be poured into the cold milk and not the other way round so that's how I do it then. xx

Boiling water impairs the taste of any brewed drink.

My tea is made with water that is 85 to 90 degrees. Never boiling.

Coffee a little hotter and as people say ....... if you MUST use boiling water then cover the coffee with milk to prevent scalding of the granules ( if it's instant )

If it's a cafetiere of freshly brewed allow the water to cool for five mins afer boiling before brewing.

Tea for me is Teabag in, hot water in, stir, brew, enjoy.

Yes. Teabag goes nowhere and milk doesn't come into the equation!!!

Coffee....black with sugar. Both in the cup together and add water.

There's actually been research on this, and it turns out that most people who think they prefer the milk put in after the hot water are wrong. Their expectation overcomes what their senses are telling them, so if they think that the milk was put in last they think it tastes better. Given a blind taste test, however, most of them prefer the one where the milk was put in first.

If the milk goes in after the water, it heats up much more quickly and that damages enzymes in the milk, turning it a but sour. If the milk goes in first it heats up more slowly so that doesn't happen.

One of my favourite quotes from John Brennan about tea......

Milk first for instant coffee but you must allow tea to brew in properly in as hot a temp as possible (warming the cup if possible when using a tea bag so it's milk after.
