"Scottish bank notes are not legal tender, not even in Scotland. But they are legal currency. Some places except them and some accept them. Which one are you referring to?" I like that!!

"They aren't legal tender, neither are Bank of Ireland notes. Shops can choose to accept them or not, most do, however they should also not be giving them out as change " In future I will spend my money in other shops

"They aren't legal tender, neither are Bank of Ireland notes. Shops can choose to accept them or not, most do, however they should also not be giving them out as change " Shops where? Last time I tried to use any kind of note, Scottish, Irish or English in Scotland, I was met with smiles and "thank you, have a nice day". Is this an English problem?

"Shops not excepting Scottish notes, Last time I checked they were legal tender, And pubs/clubs/restaurants and train stations charging for using the toilet, Recently returned from a trip abroad and every place we went they wanted money to use the toilet If its to help pay for the cleaning of the toilet area shouldn't the premises pay for this and not the customer ? " Strictly speaking, no note has to be accepted in a commercial transaction. It is down to the parties. A Scottish note is legal tender as as an English note. But if either party refuses it, then that is fine too. As for toilets. Personally, I don't mind having to proffer a bit of change if it means it won't be a minging sewer.

This in itself I find slightly ironic given that we all own a little bit of it!
