Back from the dead

Last October halfterm, Terrie, 45, popped outside to enjoy some late autumn sunshine in the garden. That was the last we saw of her.

We searched for days and weeks, praying we'd find her. Hoping that she hadn't fallen over rocks and hurt herself, not drowned in the river or during the floods, or been harmed in the cold and frost.

We eventually abandoned hope that we'd ever see her again

But today we found her poking her head up from the hole she'd dug herself into behind the garden wall

Wily old beasts, these tortoises

She's now had a little bath and is warming up underneath the radiator in the lounge

I hope that's true.

We had two terrapins years ago.

One escaped.

Six months later we found him in the garden.

He hadn't grown tho and his brother was sooooooo much bigger.

Felt so sorry for the little un.

Many years ago as a student, we shared our garden with the landlord's tortoise. Actually, it was the tortoise's garden and he did not want to share. The fecker would wait until you were sunning yourself, creep up and bite your toes. When I say creep up, he wasn't bloody slow about it either.

She's being treated to a couple of strawberry tops

It's the wonder of nature, amazing how they know when to go to sleep and when to wake up
