In hotels and on holidays? No idea, I think it's unfair.

Yes. I've been trying to book something. We're all older women and want rooms of our own but if I book it that way the cost almost doubles.

I have seen a spa break that is £99 for two people (not £99 each) but it's £159 to book for me to have it on my own!

It must be annoying.

I can understand it from the hotel's perspective though, in business terms.

Ok that makes no sense. I'd book and pretend the other person was coming later

I have booked a hotel room for two in the past and then told them my partner would be arriving later when I checked in.

"Well a single person uses the same number of rooms as a couple"

I presume hotels are thinking two people will buy more meals, drinks and so on, and spa companies think two people will buy more treatments than one.

Alternatively, give people an incentive to share and they can cram more customers in the same number of rooms.

It depends a hotel room has to be serviced the same as with two people but more and more companies are advertising as no single room suppliments

Trouble is you have to pay for two upfront so that doesnt help having one not turn up does it .

If I book a night at a premier inn I always say two as I dont want to be poked off in a single room.

Ideally I would much prefer a room to myself rather than share.

at premier inn you pay for the room rather than the occupancy..so you get a double as that's what you pay for...well I do anyway, even if I'm on my own

Central

I've not done a package holiday for ages but just pay through the nose on hotel rooms just for me.

I'd share a bed with a few possible friends but I'm used to solitude and my own large bed.

The flights will be a lot of the package holiday price and spare seats sold so single holidays could be much cheaper than they surcharge for.

That would work even better if you tell them you're identical twins. That way you'd get both treatments too!

(Mrs ddc does that deal every year with a group of friends. I have to keep a *very* low profile when there's an odd number, until they manage to find someone else. )

They are still out there. I was looking at a motorcycle tour in the US. The price for sharing a room was £4000 per person, but if you wanted room to yourself it put the price up to £5000!!

So £8000 for 2 but £5000 for one? Where's the problem?

I think it's a rip off! I've been put off many a holiday because of this. The way around it is to look at sites like owner's direct. Two of my friends and I are going to Sardinia for two weeks. Three bed, two bathrooms villa with pool, sea views and nearby amenities: total cost for two weeks £860! That's not including flights and hire car but still works out to around £450 each for a fortnight's holiday!

One person is more likely to have a wank ..those stains don't wash themselves out... And it's a fact ladies mess up a room more than blokes .. Have you seen the plughole after a long haired lady takes a shower?

One person is paying 25% more than another. I thought that was quite obvious
