"Where were they going in such a hurry?.

Been Confirmed by RAF Wittering via BBC Northampton. Very unusual to put their foot down over land like that.

As above could be a couple of Bears testing the Airspace.

Interesting, thread.. they were scrambled due to an unresponsive, small, private German plane. It was escorted to land at Cardiff, the Boom was caused by a high speed banked turn, or they could have just been putting it down a bit

Typhoon aircraft from the Royal Air Force's Quick Reaction Alert have been scrambled to intercept a civilian aircraft that was failing to respond to air traffic communications.

The fighter jets took off from their base at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire before being given special permission to light up their afterburners and go supersonic while over Oxfordshire.

Travelling in excess of 768mph (1236km/h) they intercepted the jet just a few minutes after taking off and escorted it safely to Cardiff Airport.

Residents as far away as Northamptonshire heard the huge bang as the planes pushed through the sound barrier.

I (Mr)lived in Lincolnshire as a nipper, near the wash.

A jet flew over our school one day must have been around 1979 or80 anyways it set off a sonic Boom that blew the cabin door shut, broke a few window and scared the school sheep to death.

Everyone shat themselves. It was literally above our school.

Knocked the wind our of me.

Amazing and terrifying.

Didn't happen again after that.
