My new shed got delive_ed today. 12x10. Its friggin huge. How difficult can it be to erect ? One or two man job ?

Get a nail gun not only is it easier and more precise but more fun.

However the roof and holding the walls while securing them may be tricky so get a couple of people to help.

I did the same with our barn.

Probably two person job to get it right without too much hassle.

The secret is to get a good firm base first.

Once up it might be a good idea to reinforce where the sections join with further bolts,scews etc. Then lots of preservative.

You will manage fine, even with roof, just make sure its a non windy day and all tools at hand, ideally a nail gun but if not, a good ol hammer & nails will do fine unless you want to take back down again at a later date

If you anchor bolt the base down the sides can be done on your own. Also use screws so you ca replace parts easier as nails will ruin it.

I come from a construction background. U will need at least 2 people maybe 3. 2 to hold struts and beams in place and 1 to bolt or nail it together. Best of luck

The base is ready 100mm of concrete.

Cheers guys. I'm Hoping my soldier boy son is home this weekend. He's only stationed up in Tidworth. Although I haven't told him. If I had he would stay at camp...unless he is broke.

One man.. Easy peasy..

Use balsa cement and bunjees to make it windproof.

Sure it will blow over occasionally, but it will bounce right back up..

I'd still buy the nail gun just for fun though

My dad put his together alone and it wasn't a pre-fabricated one. I know,'cos I watched him. It lasted for years and went with him to their new house. My dad was an electrical engineer who could put his hand to most diy.

They usually come with bolts for attaching panels together?.

Just use a temporary prop to hold sides while bolting it in place!.

I built a log house mostly on my own,I got friends to help with 6 perline logs upstairs .they were 45 foot 9 inch logs and a tad heavy

We had no scaffolding either just wobbly barrels and planks

So yes you can build a shed on your own

You'll need 2 for the roof. Everything else is easy. But bear in mind i also build aircraft... However they are fairy straight forward. I wouldn't go with a nail gun but i would recommend an impact screwdriver. My biggest tip.... Do you have a 12ft beam in the roof, or 3 4ft sections?

Rules for shed building

No 1- throw away the instructions

No 2- have some beer

No 3- hide the box with all the spare parts so nobody see's

Better with 2 to ensure components are square and vertical before they are joined together. but it is possible with just 1, especially if it is all prefabricated. I designed and build a 6x4x9ft one and a half storey playhouse from scratch by myself (it was my biggest erection).

Buy yourself 4 12 foot lengths of 3"x 2" and 8 62 nails before you start erecting your shed.

Fix 1 nail an inch or so from the end of each bit of 3x2 and the 2nd nail 3" or 4" further down the batton.

Use these to prop up sides and ends while fixing them to floor and each other (nails will sit either side of panel tops and help stop them moving).

hope this tip helps.

The shed is up ! Took 5 hours. Myself and my son. Looks great. Tomorrow it's getting a coat or two of some liquid stuff to give it a green tinge. Chuffed !

But now it is time for a pint or two down the pub !

Good luck. I ended up with a bowing roof so had to retro fit a 12ft 3x2 beam. Wasn't the easiest job !

I've found the best solution is to make your roof as light as possible with thin sheets like 9mm ply then fibreglass it for waterproofing.

Fibreglass is very light and very strong, I had over a foot of snow on mine in the bad winter we had and it only bowed about 25mm!
