Hunt and the junior doctor strike

*looks to check no port already started* Just seen that the next one may include not covering a and e. Not sure he this will harm public support. On another note.. Why doesn't hunt go for contracts with consultants who don't work on weekends. I remember the consultants were paid a lot and seemed to rule the roost.

Try and see a senior consultant on the weekend or the bank holidays, not a chance! They are all out playing golf LoL

I see no contract changes for them

The consultants will cover emergency care when the juniors strike.

I work in an acute hospital and the consultants work weekends on a shift basis the same as everyone else.

The public need to recognise this for what it is -

A smoke screen for the real crisis in the NHS ....

#The lack of funding that is affecting care

#The increase in demand - people are sicker, take away the idiots who use a&e stupidly there is still a huge increase in demand and severity

There is no depth this Tory government will not stoop to. Demonising doctors - DOCTORS - for wanting safer working conditions should be something we as a nation are fucking ashamed of, but instead the Daily Mail reading twats fall in with the party line once again.

I agree with most of the above except for the funding issue.

I would say that there is not an absolute lack of funding, however there is a serious problem with the diversion of funding from healthcare to bolster the already bloated profits of private companies (including the pharmaceutical industry) that has been aggravated by the breakup of the NHS into trusts and decentralisation procurement.

There is, absolutely, a deficit in funding. The cost of PFI contracts is staggering.

Hospital departments are expected to make cost savings on an recurring annual basis.

Senior clinical staff are leaving because it is virtually impossible to continue making 'savings' without cutting jobs.

This feeds into an endless cycle of fewer people attempting to cover a service with increasing demand.

The consultant i see does work weekends, i have seen him several times at the weekend.

Having been stuck in a hospital all night I can safely say although the strike everything is still running smoothly... There are plenty of non junior dr's around.

. The NHS does not exist for the benefit of the Doctors , it exists to service the health needs of tax payers .

I am not sure if you are confusing the Labour and Conservative governments , but under the current Conservative government spending is higher that it was under Labour .

As funds are not unlimited maybe we need to have a more realistic approach to funding .

We should maybe charge for visits , train more nurses and as such there would be less need for highly trained expensive Doctors .

A rigorous clamp down on health tourists would also help.

Luckily the majority of the electorate appreciate the difficulties of running the.health service and that is why so many voters voted Conservative . The Conservative party received more votes than any other party in the last election

PFI is 1 of many income streams that private companies are using to bleed white.

If the government succeed in imposing these contracts against a background of a 98% vote against, there will be no public employee safe in having their contracts ripped up and reimposed with worse conditions.

I am far from being a Tory, but have been utterly shocked with the outright lies, disinformation and bullying tactics used against people who are usually far from militant.

Strange I work for the NHS our consultants work weekends in a rota basis and always two out of 12 around Saturday and Sunday
