"It's a sprint . Not open water . I'm not an overly fit guy per say. Struggling with the breathing at the swim at the min. Have a basic Giant OCR bike and decent running trainers. It's the woodhall spa triathlon. Obviously gonna Finnish well back but can people really get lost on a cycle route? " It's the bike to run that used to kill me! My strong point was the swim but tbh I think it's good if your strength is the bike and run. Most people weakness is the swim so don't worry too much. Practice the transition as its hard when u are pumped with adrenalin make sure bike has proper shoes and clips and just put a tshirt over swim wear for quickness. Have Plenty of fluid and energy gels. Vaseline for swim if its outdoors and practice getting that wetsuit off, as its time consuming.

" I've competed at various levels in all 3 disciplines (separately) for years but only started triathlons a couple of years ago. As others have said, don't worry about racing the field. The races tends to get mixed up so you won't know where you are against anyone anyway. Don't worry about trying to get the breathing right on the swim, train for the distance first. Look up a relevant training program. ATW (Active Training World) have a few free good ones on there website. For me, the best thing is joining a local Tri club and getting the club coach to give a few pointers on improvement, but most importantly, have fun! Happy to chat if you want more specific pointers.

"Resting HR of 55 atm." Is that meant to be good? At my fittest my resting hb was between 42 and 45 per min and my my output rate was between 185 and 195 depending on which pti was monitoring my heart rate with a 90 second recovery to resting rate (and I was not the fittest in my unit).
