Removing Posts

I've noticed a few people remove their own post then write a line apologising with the reason they did so. Is this considered forum etiquette?

I remove if I re-read and I've missed words out of the piece or I remove if in the time I have been writing my post in response, another member has posted with similar viewpoints. I never feel the need to say why I removed - does anyone ever really ponder about removed posts anyway?

it depends...

I remove if it has been double posted... I have also removed posts in the past if i feel after reading it, it can be construed as being a personal attack on someone, then i will go back and try to rewrite it to make it more generic...

Obviously there is reasoning behind the removal or it would stay put... but do you feel you should add a note at the beginning of your tweaked post is what I meant...
