"Not all opinions are facts. Claiming something as fact means you have to be able to back up that assertion with evidence. People stating their opinion as fact without being able to support it look a bit daft to me. Facts are not opinions. They're, well, facts. That humans breathe oxygen, for example, is not an opinion." Opinions are thoughts never facts. I used to live with people who thought they could end arguments with 'that's my opinion' and their opinion could never be wrong. I used tobsay I didn't care because I don't deal with opinions only facts.

"...are equally valid" No. You're entitled to your opinion and you're entitled to be wrong. Someone may have vast amounts of experience on a matter, compared to someone else's borrowed words from a tabloid newspaper. Their opinions aren't equal.

"...are equally valid No. You're entitled to your opinion and you're entitled to be wrong. I'd place more value on the prognosis of a brain tumour from a medical expert than a random bloke in the pub.

If someone reads a report written by an 'expert' what makes their opinions differ if they both hold the content of the report to be true ?

Because someone reading won't and can't know the background and why that expert came to that conclusion. It's the brain tumour example: headache = brain tumour because that's what the expert said last time.

I am not saying each person has = gravitas. I am saying that if a researcher writes something and proves it with believable evidence and a reader reads it and can 'see' the validity of the evidence then the logic , reasoning, argument and informed opinion are the same. The road differed but the destination the same. I have to go to work now xx
