Yes, indeed, manners are free, but we all have a different perspective on things and what you perceive to be bad manners may not be bad manners at all.

Meh. I have a high opinion of myself. I follow the RuPaul directive in that respect, plus I happen to know I bloody rock. I'm also well mannered (unless the situation warrants bad behaviour). The two things aren't mutually exclusive.

This is the nature of the internet unfortunately.

Typing out what you want to say can be a mine field. I find that if someone lacks manners or humility on here its a major turn off...instant block.

This forum is fantastic for ing out the people that we would and wouldn't want to meet...

That sounds unlikely, if that's all you say. But still, if it's a problem, don't reply to no thanks messages. There's no need. They've said no, they don't want to hear from you again. They won't care if you say thanks or not. They might prefer you don't.

Or block them. It will mean you won't accidentally contact them again and it will take them out of your search results.

See, I think it's no more polite than accepting a no thank you and ending contact there. I don't see why thanking someone for turning them down is polite.

Having said that, I can't see why anyone would go off on one just because you say ok, I won't contact you again, let alone a lot of women, as you seem to be saying happens to you.

I've never heard any other guys complain about this. I've heard a lot of complaints, from men, women and couples, but this is a new one.

It sounds a bit odd.

I don't have a high opinion of myself. I know I'm getting on a bit and I'm fat and not very fit. I also know that men like sex and they like the way I do it,which is why I'm here. I have a choice of quite a lot of men,being that most are here for sex too and don't mind that I'm old and fat. Between us we've had some good to great sex. Ain't life grand

What is good manners is often down to perspective. There isn't a manual for what is "good manners" on here.

Sending a message on someone who has clearly shown they are not interested in continuing contact could be seen as rude.

Some people are so determined their way is right, that they'll insist on doing it, even if that's not what the other party wants. That doesn't seem like politeness to me.

I'd say politeness is not bothering someone who has said they are not interested in you any further.

What is lost on some people is that some people might, for some reason, not want another message.

I'd say good manners is seeing situations from the other person's/people's perspective and doing what they are happiest or most comfortable with. Not refusing to consider what anyone else might want and insisting your way is right.

Like I said, what is "good manners" isn't clearly defined on here and what different people consider "polite" can vary a great deal.

Debrett's, I'm pretty sure, doesn't cover NSA sex and swinging websites.

Because then they're forcing me to be mean when I don't want to be. If I was polite enough to send a no thanks response if they then respond to that I have to delete their message which will make them think I'm rude.

It's the op thats finding the problem, he's moaning about people kicking off or being rude or whatever after he messages them again despite being told no thanks. What would his ideal response be then to him saying no worries you won't hear from me again? Does he want them to say ok thanks, and then him say no worries again. The only thing people can do to that is block or delete the message which then brings him here moaning and starting threads about how people don't appreciate follow up rejection messages.

They respected you enough to reply, (another common complaint, women not replying), so why not respect their wish for no further communication by leaving them alone?

Look at it this way...

If women find they get unwanted follow up messages after replying with no thanks, they may stop replying.

Would you prefer a reply, or no reply (and possibly being blocked)?

Personally, I don't care if guys send a thanks for replying message. I just delete it. It used to annoy me but I had to learn to accept it to stay sane here. I don't want those messages though and they do annoy some women.

We're all different

Some women don't want thanks for replying messages, some don't care.

Some women do get a lot of messages every day though. A 'thanks for replying' from everyone they turn down could be quite a few messages to have to go through and delete. Add that to the 'but why?' messages, the 'please give me a chance' messages, the 'well you're a fat, ugly bitch and I didn't want to meet you anyway' messages...

Some guys are very bothered if they get blocked. I don't understand that, myself.

Absolutely, you do what you want and sod whether it's welcome or not.

To me, that last message is effectively giving that person the finger. It's saying yeah, I know you aren't interested but I am going to message you again anyway. It smacks of a control or dominance thing. It's like having to have the last word.

That, to me, seems more like rude behaviour than leaving someone who wants to be left alone without further, unnecessary, communication and not filling up their mailbox with unwanted junk, possibly blocking access to older messages they do want to get to.

But you do as you want, just don't be surprised when women don't reply, because they've found they get fewer follow up messages. Or when they just block you.

It is only possible to see the most recent 75 messages in the mailbox, so it only takes 75 new messages before every previous message is inaccessible without having to go through and delete the newer ones. Some women receive many, many more than 75 messages every day. They don't want extra, unwanted ones to deal with too.

Imposing that on someone because it suits you does not sound very polite to me.

I've seen messages on here from men moaning they'd been blocked after receiving a "no thanks" message as they were unable to reply!

I don't block after sending a "no thanks" message but I do if they contact me again. (Other options of dealing with unwanted messages are available).

I still get a shit load of messages even though I'm not actively looking, this is on my profile too.

I can see in the opening lines of some they've asked why I haven't replied, well in theory I've already told you that I'm not going to reply...

There's no right or wrong answer, I only block people who are rude to me, if they want to keep messaging they just get bulk deleted like the rest.

OP, I understand what you're saying, and there are women on here who think very highly of themselves. But there are also men who feel entitled to sex and couples who have a superiority disorder. Just don't let anything from strangers bug you and you'll be happier.

To a lot of people on here, not doing what others want, or feel entitled to is "rude" and "arrogant". Their way is the only way. When they say people should be polite or nice, they mean people should do what they want. It's ironic they accuse others of arrogance and a high opinion of themselves when they are so arrogant themselves they believe they are always right and their way is the correct way.

I don't understand why some people are so hung up on getting a reply.

I've come to the conclusion that some feel that no reply suggests they weren't 'worth' replying to, like someone who looks through you when you speak to them and walks away. They think confirmation that someone isn't interested is at least acknowledgement of their existence.

I can sort of see why people want to be acknowledged, even if it's in a no thanks message. I don't really understand why some get so hurt and offended when a total stranger doesn't acknowledge them. It seems a bit over-sensitive, like their self-esteem depends on strangers actively recognising they exist.

Some guys also worry if they don't get a reply that their message got accidentally missed or overlooked for some reason.

I find it a bit odd.
