report in the news this morning that ministers considering making the summer time clock change 2 hrs (instead of 1hr)

apparently the later nights will be good for tourism

surely this is an april fool published a few weeks too early

So long as the tourism trade is happy and it suits the Olympic games organisers I'm 100% behind this stupid idea.

Don't worry about us folk that have to try and wake up for work in the pitch black and then try to get to sleep with the sun beaming through the windows (if it happens to be sunny).

the government did this before in the 1960's I think, it only lasted a couple of years as people did not like it

Between 1968 and 1971, a British Standard Time was tested, which saw the clocks not put back during winter and stay one hour ahead of GMT all year round.

Statistics showed that 2,500 fewer people were seriously injured or killed on the roads during this time.

It wouldn't affect us. It gets light about 4:30am down here in the height of summer.I'm don't usually leave the house til 6ish.

an extra hour of daylight would be handy in the evenings for me.gardening etc.

I remember this from the 60's and it was horrid walking to school in the dark then when it was safer for kids than it is now days, I would not like to have to do it now, with all the attacks there are on kids

I too remember this in the late 60`s. I`m someone who works outside and it`s dark enough at 7.30-8.00am as it is in the month either side of Xmas. If it does change, this will put my journey to and from work right at the height of school runs in the morning and the home commute in the evenings in order to make good use of the light. Not happy at all.

Yeah that'll be fantsastic. I really want it to be light until 1 in the morning, get dark then be light again at 3 !

What a bloody stupid idea. I think during the war they had 'double summer time' which allowed the farmers to work late harvesting etc without the need to show any lights, but why now ? have the government not got anything better to do with their time ? Are there no countries who need us to push our big fat noses into their busines, maybe invade them or something like that ?

No, lets just concentrate on changing the time zone ... goons !

Yes, absolutely, in WW2 we had Double Summer Time during the summer months and the clocks were 1 hr ahead during winter.

In other words, we were on the same time standard as France. The majority of Britain and France are on exactly the same latitude. Anyone who has been to France in high summer knows that the last rays of light disappear at about 11pm, rather than 10pm in Britain.

We're absolutely all for it here as well. Who cares about hours of daylight in summer before most of us wake up? The extra light hour in the evenings would be magnificent, both in summer and winter. If there was a vote on it then we'd vote early and vote often!!

In mid summer, as it is, the sun sets just before 11am here and that's only in Glasgow. God help the Shetlanders. As for winter, well, it would be dark 'till 10am. But then, when DOES anyone in Westminster consider the more northerly bits?
