Yeah, those with children, those who care about children, those who thought about how it could easily happen to their own children ... they should have more of a sense of humour, certainly, how could they be sensitive about a thing like that?

Yes it is a sick joke but I don't see that as grounds for censorship. As much as I don't like this joke I am against censorship on grounds of taste. It is a slippery slope.

The OP may well have done himself no favours starting this thread but that is a different argument in my opinion.

My goodness me.

Anyone who knows anything about HSH's will understand the impossibility of escaping from them.

It was an April Fool joke started by management this morning which worked well for its intended catchment. I accept that it hasn't gone down well here but it's illustrated a few points about where the line in humour is.

Apologies for any offence caused. I evidently wasn't thinking about the children

Agreed. Whenever someone posts a 'questionable' thread, a number of comments follow to the effect the OP might as well give up swinging. Based on the current forum use the likelihood of a forum post causing the OP problems is quite small.

Really? You'll find that most people working in institutions or large organisations have a gallows humour about their work. Managers, occasionally, have senses of

humour too.

When you work in secure situations jokes often revolve around security being breached. It was an AFJ, which I concede was out of context on here.

"My goodness me.

Are you really saying that management is HSH would joke about one if their most high profile inmates escaping?

It's April Fools Day.

It's not as if they had the alarms going and the SWAT teams out. It had a few people running to check their computers. He isn't even at Ashworth.

I appreciate that. But how do you think our sensationalist media would respond to this story? They'd have a field day. And it surprises me that anyone working in that environment, particularly in a management role would not realise that risk and be so stupid as to joke about Huntley escaping

Really? You'll find that most people working in institutions or large organisations have a gallows humour about their work. Managers, occasionally, have senses of

humour too.

When you work in secure situations jokes often revolve around security being breached. It was an AFJ, which I concede was out of context on here.

"

This is true about any public institutions.

The sort of stuff you find hilarious on the job doesn't work in any other environment.

Surprisingly, for such a hedonistic pastime, there seem to be a lot of over-sensitive and easily offended people in this lifestyle forum.

Maybe we should have an 'anything goes' section for some real heavy shit.

Why is it sick? He didn't glorify or sympathise with Huntley. Didn't make jokes at the expense of the victims and/or their families. I'm pretty sure you've all told/shared/laughed at much worse jokes about Saville...just saying

Crumpet Castle

I knew a woman who was married to a man whose brother once read a paper that had fish and chips wrapped in it with a headline about this so I'm understandably outraged and so closely related to it all that I can justify turning everything here into something about me......

Ok I'll probably get a ban for this but

Unless anyone else in this thread has lived through this case, or any other case involving child murderers, from the beginning to the bitter end then feel free to comment.

I lived this case, my friends and colleagues involved in this case.

It is not a bloody joke to anyone to say he has escaped, it's fucking terrible.

Anyone that finds any home about a child murderer funny is not funny to me.

LET'S ALL LEAVE IT PLEASE

It was a horrific thing that Ian Huntley did, a child murderer, a sickening act, abhorrent in every degree.

The OP made an April fools joke, hmmm perhaps not in the best taste, and certainly not funny, but the drama caused by some people's replies!!

"I can hear the Death Knell sounding on the OP's swinging opportunities as we speak.

Only a fraction of this site use the forums.

Only a fraction of forum users will read this post.

Only a fraction of people who read this post will be offended.

Only a fraction of people who are offended will be of the OP's preference.

I doubt this will put any sizeable dent in their swinging activities.

Agreed. Whenever someone posts a 'questionable' thread, a number of comments follow to the effect the OP might as well give up swinging. Based on the current forum use the likelihood of a forum post causing the OP problems is quite small.

Tbh I'm more cringing about the people who called for it to be deleted at once because they were so outraged than the original slightly naff joke. "
