Another sad truth is that we live in environments which make us more and more susceptible to cancer...I worked as a cancer researcher and know how sorely needed the treatments are and also how 1 in 3 of us will be affected by it (ourselves or our loved ones). Sorry about your brother...my research was into treatments for small cell lung cancer which is also highly driven by neuroendocrine hormones. Huge lack of treatment options there ". Absolutely, lack of treatment options, and it's so quick, it's horrendous, he was diagnosed in the May, we were told it was terminal and he had until Christmas and he fought it untill March, he had some palliative chemo, to give him time to make memories and radio therapy for a cord compression but as soon as treatment stopped, he went bless him, miss him so so much dad had lung cancer, he also had early onset dementia, had dementia for the last fourteen years, he was diagnosed in July and died at Christmas, God bless him he also fought like a trooper | |||

One of my theories is that it's the high neuroendocrine levels which causes it to spread in the first place but its not something anyone is looking into. It was a side finding of my PhD project...the main thing I was funded to investigate was some new treatments. But CRUK who funded it haven't done anything else with it sadly despite the drugs having completed phase I trials.

But CRUK who funded it haven't done anything else with it sadly despite the drugs having completed phase I trials.

Your so right and his consultant also felt this, it's a feeling of its so rare that the funds are needed in other cancer research, I understand this but it's hard when it's your loved one facing it, he was misdiagnosed, as he only had shadowing on his lung on his first CT, but by the time he had a biopsy and second CT it was in his liver and kidneys, we couldn't get a consultant to take him on at first because on paper he was terminal and they were not even going to palliative chemo, but a wonderful consultant agreed to see him and couldn't believe how well he was in person compared to how he read on paper and he gave him six rounds of chemo, although I will never forget sitting in the consultants office as he closed his notes and pushed them to one side and said I'm really sorry but there is no more funding for anything else, go home and spend your time saying your goodbyes . Dad God love him was so poorly with his dementia that the decision was no treatment just palliative pain care, bless him so much he never complained a dot miss them both so much | |||
