So the British government can't bail out the steel industry because EU rules say it is illegal. And Cameron doesn't want to upset them. Brilliant.

"David Cameron has been accused of failing the British steel industry after the (UK) government confirmed it was blocking proposals from other EU members to tackle dumping of cheap product by China.

Sajid Javid, the business secretary, said it would not be right for the EU to scrap regulations known as the “lesser duty rule”, which some countries want to end in order to allow higher tariffs on Chinese steel.

The decision to block the proposals drew fierce criticism from Labour and the remnants of the UK’s steel industry, which has shed 5,000 jobs since last summer.

But Javid said getting rid of the rule would lead to higher prices for UK consumers of steel, as the current arrangements balance the interests of producers and buyers of a product"

It is absolutely clear that if we were outside the EU with this Conservative government, then they would not be doing anything more than their current inaction.

DON'T BLAME THE EU FOR THE FREE MARKET AGENDA AND FALIURES OF THE UK GOVERNMENT!

It was david Cameron and his chums who vetoed the EU plan to impose trade tarifs on Chinese steel. Two years ago

So don't blame the EU it was your tory government who stopped the EU

I understand how devastating Port Talbot closing would be. My opinion is Labour and conservative goverments have ignored industries and why should we the tax payer bail out an Indian company.

....and if we did Brexit and began to subsidise or prop up industries, how would that effect all these free trade deals that our competitors will be falling over themselves to set up with us?

If a globalised capitalist economy you can't simply use state money to bolster yourself against other nations. That's a one-way ticket to major tariffs.
