"The guy that went to america i think cant remember his name"

Dr Francis Tumbelty quite a realistic suspect, but I think not the " front runner " currently;

Latest favorite seems to be Aaron Kosminsky

I am very loosely related to Aaron Kosmisky, the so called 'mad Jew of Whitechapel', through my maternal grandparents. His name was originally thrown into the mix during the anti semitic outburst of the press in the 1890's despite there being no evidence to linkhim with the crimes.

This is so much bollocks.

It will never be known and it just fuels a rich trade in speculative 'fact', like Patricia Cornwell et al.

There are 29 'suspects' on the JtR list...

Jack The Ripper was actually a woman.

She was the upper class wife of distinguished doctor who had a penchant for prostitutes.

So she took her revenge on them for her husband using their services and blamed them for giving her husband VD which led her to becoming infertile and childless.

For the best survey of the development of the Ripper 'myth', read the appendix to Alan Moore & Eddie Campell's (masterful) retelling of the Ripper story, From Hell.

(this was later made in to a fucking awful film with Johnnie Depp)

It's called The Dance of the Gull-Catchers, in which Moore and Campbell expand on the various theories of the Ripper crimes and the likelihood — or rather, the near-impossibility — of the true identity of the culprit ever being established.

Patricia Cornwell did an investigative book on the mystery, which apparently was very good.

I don't personally care who Jack The Ripper was but it has certainly kept the tourist industry busy for many years and many years to come too no doubt.

They reckon new evidence points to a guy from Germany who eventually went to the chair for same identical crimes with same method. Ships records had his name down as travelling to London about same time as the killings while I was playing a game on x box jack the ripper vs sherlock Holmes I was looking for clues .I stumbled upon a page again another 20 odd women killed in the same way as the 5 prostitutes.

Essex.

There was also a theory that H H Holmes the owner of the murder hotel was JtR. He was apparently in the UK at the time of the murders.

However according to Frederick Abberline it was Severin Antoniovski Klosowski(sp?), he was so mentally disturbed that he never stood trial and was locked away in an asylum for the rest of his life.

I saw a documentary about that. Can't remember the guys name but he was a German who worked for the merchant navy. Jack the ripper Murders happened while the ships he worked on were docked in London.

A version I was told said it was the royal surgeon who was Jack.

Apparently Albert husband of Queen Victoria had slept with a prostitute and made her pregnant. The surgeons job was to find her and remove the unborn baby as they didn't want an illegitimate heir to the throng being born.

The said prostitute was never found so somewhere out there is the true heir.

He was this fella with a top hat and probably a cape. They all had capes. Maybe a cane too loads had them. He probably had a huge muzzie as well... think mercury but bushier.

He had knives as well. I think he'd seen a few episodes of casualty and just though...

'Hark, one thinks one shall have a stab. For it does not look particularly vexing' as thats how they spoke.

Taking it quite literally - he done a fair few brasses in. Which was ok then, as it was a common belief they didn't have souls.

All of a sudden the murders stopped which I understand was something to do with Michael Caine and Johnny Depp who had returned from fighting the Zulus and pirating respectively.

In his final letter he proclaimed himself the writer of imagine by John Lennon and advised he was a Chelsea fan.

Am off to finish my brandy... here ends the history lesson.

A nobody. Someone who assisted in the post mortems and surgery on patients...hence their aptitude with a surgical type blade...

A frequenter of prostitutes who contracted Syphilis and then took it out on other unfortunate ladies of the night...

Illness killed Jack the Ripper and because he wasn't Prince Albert, or William Gull, Physician in Ordinary to Queen Victoria, nor a Freemason, he disappeared into the ether...hence never being identified...

Another theory is he, was a she...no one would suspect a woman...

Or a foreigner of European extraction of a similar background to my first hypothesis....he went back to his country of origin after the murders and died of his sti....
