Like to think there's a lot more than any of us can comprehend on our limited intelligence.

But basically all theories are just that....speculation. I'll revive this thread in about 50 years and let you know the answer

It's a great discussion point, isn't it?

Are we dead, do we think we are dead, are we dead to one life, one dimension?

Are the ancient civilisations right in believing in the afterlife?

Is it a collective with energy?

I think we are allowed individual thought generally nowadays and we are forming what suits us at different stages of our maturity.

I would like to think my friends and family are with me .....guiding me....that sits comfortably with me.....

Mwah

I have to say hand on heart, once your dead your dead, I would love to believe in heaven and everything is lovely and you meet all your love ones again but as I get older and I've seen so many deaths and seen so many bodies in body bags or under cloths, I just see them as something that once lived and is now dead, you were bought into this world by your parents, you were grew, you wasn't a gift from God (OK people that struggle to conceive I can see where that phrase might come from) you were bought into this world by two people having sex and then you live hopefully to a grand old age and then your body gives out and you just die.

It's like a flower, it didn't exist before you planted it, it grows with feeding and then it dies, that's how I look at life

I've spent today at a funeral and wake.

I know people here will (and have) ridicule me for this but I am a Christian and believe that there is something after this realm. Whether it's Gaia or God, energy or our souls or merely the legacy of the things we have done, the lives we have touched and the memories others hold of us I think we continue in some way.

I like to think that the friend who has died has joined the other two of our group who went before. The remainingr seven of us will join them and the ten of us will meet up, sing, dance and holiday together again in time.

Most of the time I tell my self that when we die thats it no sleeping / resting no floating about watching over loved ones or stuck unable to let go / leave a room/building no stuck in limbo or gone to heaven /hell nothing ...

My brother died a few months back i do wonder if there is another existence after death would he be with my dad and other brother now And if so what sort of things would they be doing then things start to get silly in my head.

I also prefer to not think there watching over me all the time or have the ability to cross over to communicate if that was possible i am pretty sure i would have had a visit before now from my dad telling me off for being rude

all sorts of things go through my mind if i let my self think about what happens when we die and untill my time comes i guess i will never know for sure.

I do believe in something. Not god. Or supreme being. But a higher spirit. I believe we live many lives. Each life is a lesson. With each lesson your spirit grows. If we don't learn in one life it follows us to the next.

When all lessons are learned we our spirit becomes a superior spirit.

So yes I believe in afterlife. Not disclosing why I feel so. Would be opening myself up to ridicule. But I have my reasons.

We try to figure out purpose into everything.

There is no purpose, were just cosmic dust floating around for 13 billon years!.

Genetically your predisposed to reproduce, just like a flower or a monkey, nobody ever questions the high purpose of flowers, four year olds kick them over while walking to school, where's the morality, something died, oh yes it's just human life that means everything!.

Your better than everything else because God said so and that gives you the morality to kick flowers over, squash spiders and eat cows!.

Because your special, your unique, your a one off, despite every single piece of evidence to the contrary.

Life's a bitch, one long struggle and then you die... But factually you get to make it one long struggle and you get to marry the bitch, and you get to moan about it and claim the next "life" will be better

I believe the mind is a wondrous thing that, when deprived of oxygen as one nears death, plays havoc with our consciousness and triggers areas of the brain not normally used.

So, in my humble opinion, visions of an afterlife or heaven (or even hell), of family members and other loved ones that have long since departed, of the long tunnel with a light at the end of it, even the feeling of an 'out of body' experience are all part of the brain and consciousness shutting down.

Those that are then brought back to life remember these experiences and think they've witnessed the afterlife.

My dear old Nan had dementia in her twilight years and saw all sorts of wonderful things all around us .. It's the mind playing tricks.

So my humble and frankly depressing conclusion to everything is when you're dead, you're dead.

I hope I'm wrong though and the afterlife is a fantastic place to be ... I just don't want to find out for a LONNGGG time yet!

Death is final, cryogenics isn't for me.

The comfort of needing something else beyond this is lost on me. And as for getting by here, because the real deal life is after death, it seems inane and baffling.

We're physical energy and matter and archaic superstition can't magic up a reality that in any likelihood is different. Religion has comforted and help control the brilliance of the human spirit, often to our detriment.

"I'm certain that death is final

Succinct as per joe

Lol - it's a disturbing statistic but 10 out of 10 people die "

Some of us do it more than once so does that skew the stats?

energy can't be created or destroyed. our bodies are chemicals and electrical impulses, our brains also. it'd be nice to think it goes back into circulation, as it were.

I think that this life we are living right now is just a small part of a much bigger journey, one which is

way out of our current comprehension...we (our energy/souls) are just passing through

Do we believe their is this beautiful place called heaven that we go to when we pass over, nobody has come back to tell us of its wonder,if they did I expect there would be a mass suicide on earth , everyone would want to go to the perfect place

No, the after life was created to comfort those left behind and to make us less afraid of dying.

"if there is an afterlife why has nobody come back and told us about it?

I believe that although our physical bodies die, our souls (had to type that carefully!) move on to and into another body and so it goes on..... "

Why would they come back maybe it's not possible , maybe it's to nice there and can't ruin the surprise what if to come back you would have to die there and then you can't return , what if we already came from there but can't remember

I believe in rebirth and karma.

I'm sure I've been here before (regressed by hypnosis)

And karma for this life, hence my bright outlook on life and I love giving pleasure which is where I gain most pleasure

Have a good day everyone x

I have a spirit which is not ephemeral like a body, so yes, it cannot be subject to a physical death and has to go somewhere.

Along similar lines, I've always wondered why mediums don't ever contact great, great, great, great family members. I'd be much more interested to hear what they had to say."

Because they're all charlatans and frauds

"I've spent today at a funeral and wake.

The remainingr seven of us will join them and the ten of us will meet up, sing, dance and holiday together again in time."

ibelieve all this to

"No, the after life was created to comfort those left behind and to make us less afraid of dying.

My dear old mum passed away in January, she had dementia and at the end she really wanted to die. She remembered no one and liked no one and eat nothing and drank very little. She was a believer as a Salvation Army Officer, but not me!

I was told that my dear old mum would now be whole again in heaven and have all of her faculties. She would be meeting up with all of her friends and family who went before!

Load of old bollocks! If there were a god, why would he let a devoted subject suffer like this? It was not even that stupid phrase "It is our fault because he gave us free will!! It was an illness!

No, once we die we are gone forever. Yes I have had strange things happen, but not enough to change my mind. And if we are souls that go round and round, where did the extra ones come from? There are billions on the planet and in prehistoric times, there were maybe just thousands.

Sadly, I am nearer than most on here, tell ya what. If there is an afterlife, I'll come back and post on here! (Just like that famous medium, Doris Stokes said she would do. Come back and let us all know..Didn't happen!)
