Did you know that they are all made from the same lump of wood? The kudos comes from the wood-turning, not the decoration.

Or that the pictures in a set are all slighly different? One doll may have a basket of wheat, and another might have a loaf of bread.

I think a lot probably left and then returned under different incarnations - or went from singles to couples - and sometimes back to singles again! X

I'm beginning to think the site has been hacked be the Russian State... their doll sales must have rocketed dye to this thread.

Matryoshka is associated in Russia with family and fertility. Matryoshka dolls are a traditional representation of the mother carrying a child within her and can be seen as a representation of a chain of mothers carrying on the family legacy through the child in their womb.
