Hardly. With the exception of Arcade Fire and perhaps Plan B most acts on the Brits fit into the "cheese" category, therefore a hell of a lot of mums and dads will know exactly who they are as their seven and eight year old children make up the largest fanbase (Take That aren't included, though they are cheese, their fanbase is almost exclusively the "mum" market) for such acts and no doubt let everyone know about it. Typically you'd be looking at acts like Glass Candy, Delphic, Hot Chip, Skream etc if you were wondering which bands and artists most young adults that are actually old enough to get into a nightclub tend to banter about.....

The 80's is a decade actually revered by most late teens and twentysomethings as amongst other things they recognise it was the decade which gave us electro and the original goth movement, without acts such as Gary Numan and the Cure modern artists such Simian Mobile Disco and much of the emo scene in general would not be as they are today....
