Should Rooney be dropped from england squad

Jump to newest

Seeing how the england team played well in Germany and came back to beat them without Rooney. And also what with new young blood coming into the england squad with the likes of Vardy and Kane.

Should England drop Rooney as being the automatic starting forward player in the squad? I personally prefer Vardy, Kane and Sturridge ahead of Rooney. I think Rooney is now overrated player.

What you think?

I think he should be dropped. Vardy/Kane are in much better form, I think Rooney is passed his best

Yes, time for new blood. Kane over Rooney is a no brainer given his age and potential.

Definitely, slows the team down, they have to adapt to play his game, football manager succumb to the press for their "made up heros" only so they can slate him when it goes wrong

Right then lads, we've got a big tournament coming up and lately we've been playing pretty well.

This seems like a good time to drop the skipper. Let's face it, he's washed up at the mighty old age of 30 and it's not like he's done much of late, swanning about being our leading goal scorer and all that.

What do you mean I'm getting carried away with that Germany game?..

What have they won under his leadership?

About as much as Bobby Moore had in 1965?

My preference is for rugby, we actually expect to win stuff and a captain wouldn't be highly thought of if he hadn't won stuff. I appreciate there are more teams playing football but it's not like England have come close either...

Have I missed something about Hartley's prior record?

Cannock

We take 4 strikers in the squad to the Euros, obvious 4 choices seem like Vardy, Kane, Sturridge and Rooney.

There's only one person in the country that would have chosen him - and he ain't English

Worked out alright though.

he has tried and maybe with another group of players around him when he was in his prime . He still has alot to offer england and the game in hole . Lets see . We played well against Germany. But they didn't have a full team out . So to make a judgment on the whole team is a little to soon I feel . Lets just keep going and build . Dont expect to much from them .. no pressure to win . Lets see some good fun football , win or lose .

I don't think he should, as it wouldn't be the same without him, although I think they should change so that the players have to play for the position and as well how good their performance are, should determine "who" will be in that position. This will create a healthy competition and a better team in the long run.

I wouldn't make a big decision like that based off the friendlies.

would like to see Rooney start in the number 10 role with kane up top and vardy on as a super sub
