Wrong on so many levels I don't know where to even start.

That list and the question of the top 20 British singles is like when you move house, and you have to put all your records and cds back into order, its not something you can just DO! It takes planning

Bang. Bang. Second shot for me.

(Even that song 'Bang Bang' was better than wonderwall...!)

A while 20 or so years airbrushed out of history then? Considering none of the 90s bands would have been in existence without their late 70s influences obviously hasn't been considered

Canterbury

What is the criteria......?

If we are talking about influence we seem to have forgotten the whole social geo political awareness thing that came out of "Do they know it's Xmas"....it may not have been Shakespeare with a tune but it certainly changed the world.

Alternatively, if it is musical extravagance, what about Tubular Bells?

Or if we are talking simply a good tune, then this list is a little short of anything other than a simple 30 year time frame........in other words, it draws from a very small period in out culture.

It's a pretty decent list of Indie guitar music. Wrong order though, and very mainstream.

This is the problem isn't it. Music is so subjective. But the list on the OP is clearly put together by middle aged men from Manchester.

I just went on the Radio X site to have a look at the top 100 and got this - "Sorry, we've got a bit of a technical problem! Try coming back later"

That is due to a cyber attack by people disgruntled at the top 20.

It's a list voted for by XFM listeners. What did you all expect?

I'm sure that if we had a list from Heart FM or BBC Radio Norfolk there'd be plenty of "Knights in White Satin" or whatever

Don't get me wrong, I like all the songs on the list, but there are better songs, and in some cases there are better sings on the same albums as the ones on the list (if that makes sense).

I think they just took the first 20 tracks from a mix tape someone made them at art college

The most interesting thing is to look at the best selling singles of all time .

You won't find any by Oasis in the top 40 .

This list is very much a personal selection done by listeners from a selected region I would guess .
