My flat currently has one TV and one ariel point.. I can watch freeview on that quite nicely

If i buy a 2nd TV and put it in my bedroom.. am i right in thinking i can not watch free view on that as its not plugged into an ariel?

If i buy a SMART tv.. i could watch On Demand programs using the iplayer etc

How expensive roughly would it be to get a blokey in to hook me up in the bedroom so i could watch freeview?

I may be wrong, but if you put a splitter plug in the back of the box and run a 2nd cable from there to the new TV, you should be fine. It's a Y shaped TV aerial plug.

An Amazon Fire Stick would work for your needs.

Or a Chrome Cast.

Or a little desktop/media centre with Kodi on it

If the freeview is built in to the main TV, then no, unless your 2nd TV also has freeview built in. But it depends on whether you'd get a good enough signal on your 2nd TV - it depends on the aerial feeding it.

I've been able to slave a 2nd non freeview TV off the freeview box in the lounge, but it needs a mains powered signal amplifier as the cable run is quite long.

Freeview boxes are only around £20, but unlikely that you'll get an adequate signal with an indoor aerial, even with a signal booster.

Having said that, I bought a new TV for the bedroom (with freeview built in), and rather than try to slave off the house aerial, I drilled a small hole in the ceiling up into the loft, and using a co-ax extension cable, mounted a really cheap crappy indoor aerial up there and it works fine.

With Kodi, you can watch anything you want.

The chromecast, with the right apps you can watch loads of different things.

Is your bedroom upstairs or on the same floor?

If it's not easy or simple to get a cable from your lounge to your bedroom (internally)

I would put a splitter into the aerial cable outside before it goes through the wall of your lounge. Then fix an additional cable externally to your house and go through the wall of your bedroom.

I'm not keen on the wireless senders they are too prone for things interfering with them. Plus you are restricted to watching what the main TV is tuned to.

Another option is to get a portable Aerial. Depending on signal strength in your area, it may be ok or it may be shit.

Basically, you need an aerial feeding it.

You have a few basic approaches:-

You could try a T, or Y shaped splitter, but the signal may not be powerful enough and you might not want to drill through the walls to pass the cable through. Better, would be to put a decent mains powered signal amplifier into the aerial socket - make sure you get one that has two output feeds on it.

If the first one is a no-go, then you might get by with a separate indoor aerial in your bedroom, but again, you'd probably need a powered one, or a separate signal amplifier.

If your bedroom has an outside wall, and it happens to be on the correct side of the building, you could mount an external aerial there, and bring the cable in through a window frame, or the wall itself.

It may be possible for a contractor to take a feed off the aerial for the building, but he'd need to be able to get up to it.

Without knowing the cardinal orientation of your outside walls with respect to the nearest broadcasting antenna, it's difficult to say, but I'd try a cheap indoor aerial and signal booster first, as you can do that yourself and it won't cost much.

What I'd try first then, is get an indoor aerial and a mains powered signal booster. Get the aerial as high as possible and near to an outside wall that faces the broadcasting antenna. Get an aerial with elements -one that looks like a smaller version of an outdoor aerial. Have a look at which way the external aerials in your neighbourhood are pointing and whether the elements are oriented horizontally or vertically - this is vital.

There maybe more than one antenna serving your area, so you may find some pointing one way, and some another, you'll just have to experiment for the best signal (or you can buy a signal meter, and a more accurate way of aligning is by taking the grid co-ordinates of the antenna off the web, and use a map and compass to point the aerial - don't forget to add 2 degrees when going from grid to magnetic)

You can get everything on Kodi but you do need to do a little bit of research on YouTube

by the big field

Forget the Y splitter suggestions as it will degrade the signal to both TVs, unless a distribution amp is used- even using high grade cable, not to mention the mess running it round your flat/house.

The kodi/ firestick/ chromecast units are pretty good but can be a bit tricky to set up and they rely on a good wifi signal to the end point and you will need an uncapped data allowance from your ISP if you plan to stream a lot.

Depending on your budget, you could use a HDTV mains transcoded, which allows you to send your TV signal through your electrical system. You plug a box in by your main TV, plug in the aerial and then your main TV- then by your 2nd TV, you plug in another box and connect the aerial to that telly and you have access to your aerial via your electrical ring mains. They're not cheap though, about £250 on average- but it will give you the flexibility to move the TV to any point in your home. Look for something like this

My Own Little World

I got a cheap indoor aerial for my sons freeview TV, depending on the weather the signal is ok. Maybe invest in a decent one.

Failing that get a chromecast for £30 and find a good streaming site on the web, I like cartoonhd

Indoor aerial would be your best bet - there is a flat one made by Philex (SLx Pro Flat Indoor Amp Aerial - that is available from Argos amongst other outlets) that was developed with, and won an Enterprise award from, Loughborough University - I have used these successfully recently. They are only around £25 and will be the quickest, cheapest and most cost effective solution to give you freeview in a second room with no aerial socket available.

The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales

Just buy a 4 way booster/splitter and put it in your attic. Wire into a 240 socket and your sorted. Different channel on each tv.

She can't - rented housing and doesn't want to drill holes as she said earlier....
