""My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. I thought the point of Flemming's Bond is that he's an incurable misogynistic, d*unk parvenu - as witness by the 'shaken, not stirred' comment.

Not that I actually care about such things but... Some connoisseurs believe that shaking gin is a faux pas, supposedly because the shaking "bruises" the gin (a term referring to a slight bitter taste that can allegedly occur when gin is shaken). In Fleming's novel Casino Royale, it is stated that Bond "watched as the deep glass became frosted with the pale golden drink, slightly aerated by the bruising of the shaker," suggesting that Bond was requesting it shaken because of the vodka it contained.

OMG - there's pages and pages devoted to the drinking habits of James Bond lol As I said, I though the point was that Bond isn't a gentleman - he's a thug - and there are clues that the sneering Flemming leaves in his books.

"Did he drink gin martini?. I don't know I've just always had it in my subconscious that it was vodka!. I wonder if he actually says it somewhere or does he just say martini ![]() No, he drank vodka martinis. I'm trying to work out the relevance of posting about gin too.

Moonraker is the only Bond film I've seen and it was such shite I've never watched another. ![]() There's a reason for that - Moonraker is the worst Bond film. Sadly it wastes a great villain in Hugo Drax. It was written primarily to cash in on the 'space craze' started by Star Wars. 'Take care of Mr Bond. See that some harm comes to him...'

"Not sure of the film or the exact words but Bond gets water on him and the girl says 'Your suits all wet' to which Bond replies, 'but my martinis' still dry'." I believe that's 'Die Another Day' with Pierce Brosman and Halle Berry. One I do recall was quite cheezey is in Moonraker after Bond (Roger Moore) had his fight in the water with an anoconda and Drax asks him why did he break it off all of sudden, to which Bond replies, 'I discovered he had a crush on me!" ![]()
