Restraining orders

A certain site I don't think I am allowed to name on here has a system called Restraining Orders.

Basically, if two people are rubbing each other up the wrong way, they are given a Restraining Order, which means they aren't allowed to reply to, or contact, each other. If they do, and it's reported, they get a ban.

Good idea? Silly idea? Unnecessary?

Would people try to get round it by making more "subtle" digs to try to hide their intent?

What are your thoughts?

Not sure how you would do that in an open forum. The poor moderators. As for messages, we have block buttons.

Or... People could just grow the fuck up?

To be honest, it doesn't sound like a terrible idea, but considering how basic this forum is I very much doubt they'd bother with that kind of functionality.

Easter just around the corner!

Bloody hell that must be quite hard to monitor,is that if they are constantly bickering with each other or just a one off? It's like being back in school with the teacher keeping them apart!

To be honest I think sone people want the last word and will derail a thread totally by bickering continually with one or 2 others. And bickering is very different to disagreeing. Personally I think if they've been warned then it should be a timeout for deliberate disruption or whatever the term is

There are people on here I ignore when they have a dig. It's not that difficult to do. People should be able to moderate their own posts

You can get banned from a thread it happened to a guy last week for disagreeing with someone

I agree with you. And no, it wouldn't work here.

I was a bit bemused when I heard about it on the other site actually, but then again, it's a huge site with a lot of groups. I don't know how they manage it actually.

You don't.

You do however get banned for what you type and how you type it, or if a mod has asked people to stop something and they carry on anyway.

If you could outright say to someone stop being a cunt, there would be no need for sniping would there

Some people use sardonism to hide it.

I used to post regularly on another site

If a member blocked another member their forum posts would be hidden too

And some people derail threads by being the spelling and grammar police. So I'm going to behave.

Apparently admin considered that here but when asked, site members who responded said they would prefer to carry on seeing forum posts.

It's before my time but I've seen admin post about it before.

Personally I'd prefer the choice of mail and profile block or complete block including the fora.

It does make threads a bit weird and disjointed and difficult to follow though, and you'd still potentially see what was said when people quoted it.

I pretty much agree with that.

There are people on here who will never see eye to eye with me m or I them but as in real life we manage to avoid each other. However I do see that it would be useful in cases where the rest of us get sick and tired of watching the back and forth bickering.

You see,a perfect example of how a disagreement can be brought down to primary school level,by one comment.

I was joking along with you, because I can. Others don't always take a joke aimed at them in the same manner. And that's when it descends into bedlam.

I didn't want my bad spelling to eat you up inside,I know it does to some on here. I could tell you why I spelt it wrong but it's a long winded story and boring.

It could have its uses - an idiot I've blocked has more than once replied to me via the forums. Has again this morning..... There is no other way of me stopping him!?

I don't know what's happened and frankly I'm not really that fussed however by commenting the above are you not just fuelling what seems the never ending fire? Just merely an observation.....

I used to be a member of the spelling and grammar police. I got over it.

I only mention it now if someone makes a mistake when criticising someone else for making a mistake.

Being a conscientious member of the spelling and grammar police is a full time job on here and not very rewarding.

Theres some people i find i disagree with most of what they say but then they might post something i agree on or am interested in and i will post and answer to that as well. There are people i generally agree with but can disagree with on something.

It might just make it worse, as people will just reinvent a new profile to get round it.

It's like in real life - just let it go over your head. Reaction - feeds those who like controversy.

Ok as this is getting personal about others it might be time to stop.

Quoting someone who has you blocked or vice versa is allowed as long as it isn't harrassment.

As always, ignore anyone who pisses you off. If they carry on then you could report the posts saying why and it will be monitored.
