Good morning Fabbers , friends and Forumites

I hope you all had a totally spiffing Easter / chocolate holiday break.

I have noticed that there seems to be a little negativity this weekend.

Heavens what's happening , are they putting something in the chocolate.

I have also noticed the term White Knight being used alot.

After asking a chum what they are I found out they are chaps who just seem to fawn over people and always agree.

I have been called one .

For me I tend to stay away from negative threads and keep my opinions to myself.

I practice Mindfulness which promotes positivity.

So chaps and ladies lets just be nicer to each other.

"White Knight" seems to have become a standard generic insult much like "timewaster".

Originally it seemed to have been applied to men who fawn excessively over women and are anxious to agree with everything they say in the hope of gaining favour..

White knights do exist and it can be as annoying as fuck. Some people are just nice though. I wouldnt worry about it.

There are definitely 'White Knights' looking to uphold the honour of the helpless maidens on here, and at the same time elevate themselves above and undermine their rivals - an Internet forum version of a stag rut. It can be very amusing to witness at times.

The polar opposite happens too - not sure what the term is - usually mocking or ripping the piss out of a single male (unlikely to be in the forum elite) who might dare to say or suggest something outside of what might be deemed to be the acceptable norm.

It's all part of the playground that is the forums. It doesn't just happen here, it happens all over t'internet - part of normal human behaviour

It seems that some people get tarred with the 'white knight' status when all they're trying to do is make the OP feel better sometimes too.

I often wonder what is wrong with just being nice? When did we start assuming everyone has an ulterior motive?

When many people are proven to have an ulterior motive!

I do agree though that there is a great deal of tarring and labelling going on at any given moment on fab.

I'm not a white night, I do try and be pragmatic and nice though. If I'm agreeing with a guy its being 'nice' if I agree with a lady I'm a sycophant or worse.

In reality though fab is a tool for us all, we use it to our own ends whatever that may be. Some chat, some have an axe to grind, some want to meet. The people that I converse with know what I'm like and my friends like me. If people want to stick a label on me then that's up to them but invariably it will be based upon their opinion and their own perspective

I've been accused of White Knight behaviour in the past. I'm just a nice guy though. I like to be nice. I try to not rock the boat too much if I can help it, that is all. If anyone's ever met me in real life they'll know that's just how I am. What you see on here, that is really me

Not commenting on you specifically Howard but in generic terms but I generally see the term 'White Knight' as applying when men 'defend' or talk up the women.

If someone is consistent and nice to the men being attacked as well as the women then fair enough. It's when people either stand aside and say nothing (or worse, join in) when a guy is being vilified but dive in to protect the honour if it's a woman that I see as 'white knighting' not generally just being nice on the forums

The first time I heard the phrase 'white knight' it was made by MissTress, so I believe she coined the phrase many moons ago and it's a term that's stuck and is perfectly apt in some occasions.

There are some lovely, friendly guys on this forum who are simply nice and goid natured.

There are some guys who make such cringy comments to women in order to make themselves look good, a knight in shining armour so to speak, because all us women need these guys to protect us against nasty comments!

An example we see a lot would be the thread 'I can understand why women get fed up with messages from single guys, I've seen a girlfriends inbox and it was full of fancy a fuck messages, come on guys, get a grip, don't send this crap, the gorgeous women of fab deserve much better from us'. I really dislike that kind of thread.

There are some genuinely lovely guys who can just pay a woman a genuinely nice comment. I would put you in that catogary op. Then there are the downright ridiculous things said that are just to get in peoples knickers and sometimes derogratity to others in doing so. I do think whiteknighting is gender specific especially some of the crap some women come out with to each other as well

I think it's all been to do with the full moon last week.

I've used the term recently - to say someone wasn't one. Because I prefer real opinions rather than agreeing because it's the done thing sometimes. And yes - how do I know it's not their real opinion anyway etc etc - I don't.

I step away generally from the arguing for the sake of it threads - can't be arsed with it.

There are some lovely men around, there are some that say nice things for the sake of it and on the other end there are some lovely ladies and there are also ones who lap up the attention on offer around here.. And then the nice gentleman are accused of being white knights for giving it.

Each to their own of course but I didn't miss the drama of the forum while I was away

Awww thank you. It's true the socks are a little out of control

I once got accused on the forums of 'unrequited puppy-like fawning'. I must admit that did annoy me slightly. That person didn't know me. I was just being me and saying what I felt like saying in that moment. There was no hidden agenda on my part. I don't play those games. Some people are too quick to jump in with their White Knight accusations sometimes I think.
