"Yeah it's certainly proving to be an upward battle at the moment. Me going there as a tourist looks like a possibility with relative ease. It's just going to cost £100-150 on visas before flights and accommodation etc. So it's quite expensive. Coming the other way is weird. I did look at the marriage visa. If only for forward planning/hoping. But that seems to suggest that even if we were married she couldn't work or live here properly for a while. " Not true.

" A spouse visa is pretty straight forward though... " Yeah. The whole world works like this, why UK should be different? (I assume you are British citizen, not resident or so)

I wouldn't mind the spouse visa but it would be nice to live together for 12 months or so before I pop the question so to speak. It's been a while since we were in the same room. We Skype 3 times a week but it's not quite the same

Question is, do you feel lucky? ...

"You think £150 is expensive for a visa? The UK almost certainly charge more for most of their visas. And the hoops they make applicants go through, you wouldn't believe. That being said, you should be able to get a visa to Russia as a visitor, but expect to go through a very frustrating process, and I don't know who told you it'll be relatively easy. First, there's a never-ending form asking for things like a list of all the countries you have visited with exact dates in the past 10 years; details of past employers and managers, education history, insurance numbers, etc You'll need an official letter of invitation from your host and you have to go to some pokey office somewhere in London to have your fingerprints taken. All in all, allow 3-4 weeks to complete the process. And if and when you get to the point of bringing the girl and her kid over, don't think you'll get an easier time at the British Embassy. A UK visiting visa for her will be far from straight forward, even if you feel you have met all the requirements and provided all the required documents. Expect to send your bank statement and proof that she'll be accommodated. She'll also need to satisfy the visa officer that she intends to leave the UK after her visit. It'll be up to her to find a way to show this. By the way, she can't work with a visitors visa obviously. If she wants to work, she'll need to find an employer that'll be willing to apply for a work permit. And this can only be done if the job she'll be doing has been advertised in the UK for at least 30 days and no UK or EU citizen was found suitable for the job. I'm sure you'll agree this would be unlikely. If you get married, expect to be viewed with suspicion when applying for a marriage visa because more often than not, they'll think it's a sham marriage. And I hope you earn at least 25K per annum, because that is approximately what you'll need to show before her application will even be considered for her and her daughter. Good luck " But other than that it's really easy

"And you have looked at the Fiancée visa route ? Also How good is her English she will need to pass a test Do you earn over the limit you need to bring a wife £23K from memory I travel to Russia a lot" Her English is very good. We used to work together on Cunard Cruise line. At the moment I am just below that limit but in the next 3 months I should be making closer to the 30 mark so that shouldn't be a problem.
