"Today I bought some Annie Sloan chalk paint... I'm going to paint my kitchen cupboards. When I visited my friend last week, she's done hers and they look fab so I figure it's gotta be a really cheap way to give my kitchen a facelift. Has anyone else done it? Am I gonna be like 'why the fuck did I start this job?' like I did when I painted my walls? " Sounds cool I wanna do my kitchen where do you get them from?

Unscrew the cupboard doors and lay them flat outside! Take a big piss on them, swirl in some tippex and hey presto! Tippiss style kitchen!

"I've got the wax for when I'm done. Do you think it's better to take the doors off and paint them or do it while they're on the cupboards? " I'm going off the idea just reading that and it's not even my project.

"I'm starting a small business doing furniture painting/restoration and upholstery etc. So deal with chalk paint all the time. Annie Sloan paint is not the best, very very well marketed though. I'd recommend everlong superior finish chalk paint. Has wax already in but wouldn't do any harm using another coat. The wax will take about 30 days to fully cure. Apply it evenly, wipe the excess and then leave 24 hours before buffing. Also on the second coat a water spray bottle is your best friend. " Okay... now I wish I'd asked this before I bought the paint!! I also wish I'd not given my water spray bottle to my hairdresser a week ago!! So you think I should take the paint back?!

"It all sounds complicated I want to do something with my kitchen cupboards " Anyone can use chalk paint it's easy but it's getting the perfect finish that's hard. I use up to 1000 grit sandpaper for finishing and a lot of different products over the top of the paint. Too many people buy a tin of paint, paint something, attacking it with 80 grit sandpaper and call it shabby chic....pisses me right off!

" You will be ok with it, just buy some fine grit sandpaper to finish it. Just use at least two layers of wax.

" How much would it cost me for you to whiz up and paint them for me?! I didn't sand my fireplace... I just threw on the paint over a bloody awful mahogany wood, let it dry and waxed it. It looks a damn sight better than it did although I'm sure if an expert were to look at it they'd cringe.

Am I gonna be like 'why the fuck did I start this job?' like I did when I painted my walls? I've done a lot of it and actually buy from charity shops and sell in another shop. It's really simple. You can even do it with emulsion as well. If you would like some practical advice just PM me and I will be happy to explain the stages for you. "

" Steel wire wool works well and also gives an added vintage tinge to the finish. Follow that up by scuffing over with medium sandpaper for very genuine shabby look.

"I'm gonna take my time and do one door at a time. My mate bought a little handheld sander for hers to make them look all distressed but I think I'm just going to paint them all and see what it looks like. There are only 8 doors and 2 drawers so hopefully I'll be done in a couple of weeks. " We will expect to see pics as you make progress It sounds lovely - and taking your time will give you more control over the finish than a quick job.

"Forgot to mention this earlier. Chalk paint is thick paint, so after 2 maybe 3 coats plus 2 layers of wax. Drawers don't always shut properly. Made the mistake of painting the entire sides of the drawers for a dressing table. Couldn't get the fuckers back in! " Good to know... I'm not painting the sides though... I'll live with the sides staying wooden.
