"My trampoline is in the neighbour's tree....ban them! Ban trees too. And the neighbours. Was it secured to the ground? " Apparently yes it was tethered to the ground but broke away, until a full investigation is completed I just think folk jumping on the ban this ban that because of an incident is just over the top. Not forgetting the tragic loss of a child's life, in the scheme of things how many bouncy castles are in use against how many fatalities occur, the percentage must be negligible. It's a tragic freak accident

It's a tragic freak accident " It is NOT a freak accident. High winds were forecast for that day. There had been an incident the previous year. The castle should not have been inflated. I don't think it could have had sufficient 'grounding' if it broke free and took off in a strong gust. Negligence.

"What happened? " a bouncy castle broke free and gained height in a strong wind and came to rest 150 metres away ........ seven year old , alone in the inflatable, died in hospital.

"I'm glad there's someone like the M.P. to make a fuss. His fussing will at least help toward thorough investigations. This is NOT an isolated incident. Although there have not been an enormous amount of deaths on inflatables there have been more than there should be. There was an accident with one last year in the same fair. We might get tighter controls out of this and that would be a good thing. What should people say to the family ? Oh bad luck about your dead daughter but that's life ? NO! A huge investigation please and changes to safety procedures. " I think you have to wate till the investigation is complete .

"We scoff at health and safety, but this is what happens when there are no checks. " Yup. In my line of work, I find the people who drone on about "health and safety gone mad" are the ones who go mad if something goes awry because not enough care was taken.

"Someone without due regard made a mistake in which a child died. Stupid mistakes/incompetence sadly cause death and injury all the time. We scoff at health and safety, but this is what happens when there are no checks. Theme parks stop rides in high winds, someone should have thought this a bad idea, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Those poor parents and the owner of the bouncy castle too. A fun day ending so tragically. Ban them? No, just ensure they are securely tethered, inflated and monitored." i might be wrong but this appears to have happened at a public event in which case there would have been an elf n safety officer there. People would also have been required to do risk assesments and the bouncy castle should have been checked by the safety officer.

"Apparently a couple were arrested and charged with manslaughter due to gross negligence. Its funny how this happens instantly for individuals but not for big corporations. Here comes the knee jerk." Big companies don't get prosecuted because they follow h&s legislation. They employ people to look at this . Unfortunately small business owners don't or can't afford to take h&s seriously. Then end result is the loss of a very young life.

"The worst thing is - that child's parents thought they were taking her out for a treat. They lost their child. Accidents happen - we all know that, but it sounds like they didn't take the precautions to minimise that risk. And it had a tragic outcome. "

"More importantly a risk assessment would have been submitted and approved. That should/would have included emergency action plans which should have described defined actions under specific climate conditions. No significant stormy conditions ground anchors would be ineffectual and as such there should have been a decision made by a person of suitable responsibility to deflate and evacuate. Sadly tho mistakes and freak weather happen. You can't legislate for everything " The people that hired out the castle may still have a duty of care to their customers. No different to a hire company hiring a chain saw to an un-qualified person. OK you may not need a ticket to put a bouncy castle up but perhaps with the weather forecast like it is perhaps it shouldn`t have gone out for hire in the first place!

My tree however did fall over, that was something I couldn't have predicted.

"Ban wind ! And fanny farts ! Ban banners ! Ban Band Aid ! Ban Snickers and bring back the Marathon.... And opal fruits. Ban the bomb ! JUST DON'T BAN THE BLOWJOB !" Sorry... You are now on that particular banned list. More importantly, we need to remember a child died. Our hearts go out to her parents, family and friends. We also feel for the owners and operators of the attraction who had to go to bed that night wondering if a decision they made brought Summer's life to an early and tragic end.

"I'd personally guess no one was actually calling for them to be banned until the Daily Mail ran a front page story that there were growing calls to ban bouncy castles and nicely whipped up some hysteria. It's a total over reaction. The fact that 2 people have already been arrested for causing manslaughtewr by gross negligence suggests that as many have already said in this thread the cause is human error" The BBC reported: Conservative MP for Harlow Robert Halfon said in a statement he would be asking for an "urgent inquiry" and to consider whether bouncy castles "should be banned from Harlow town fairs, until we can be sure that they are completely safe, so such a horrific tragedy never happens again". That sounds far more sensible that bouncy castles should be banned completely and for evermore. My thoughts are with the family, friends and the emergency workers involved.
