What does freezer gas smell like?

A strange smell appeared yesterday afternoon in the spare bedroom/tv room.... its not unpleasant.... reminds me of opening a tub of homemade vegetable soup thats been in the fridge overnight (if that makes sense). The smell still there this morning and I cant find a cause. Moved everything and checked everything but found nothing.

Other than the usual stuff found in a spare bedroom/tv room is a small chest freezer (4 months old) but the smell isnt any stronger around the freezer and there is no smell inside.

Any suggestions as to what it could be?????

Is there a drain on the freezer... Is it a self defrosting one? Sometimes the drain gets blocked with gunge that can be a bit unpleasant to the nose xx

Freezer gas doesn't smell

Blocked drains and burnt out vap trays do

Also, if the gas was / had escaped, your freezer would no longer be working correctly. The internal temperature would start to slowly rise and the compressor would be constantly running trying to maintain temperature.

Dont think that would smell pleasant.... and no sign of anything.

The smell isnt stronger in any part of the room....

Is your freezer still cold??

Refrigerant gas does not smell and your freezer will be warm if you had a leak or any air gets into the system

your freezer compressor / Evaporator/condenser gets very warm and at this time of year may have attracted mice, sometimes a dead mouse does go off and smell

difficult to say? without seeing, but if your freezer is still cold, its still working, might be worth having a look around the compressor, although at 4 months old, things should be running well,
