A 70 year old german land m ne killed 4 people few days ago like no term effect of the wars still ongoing

The company I work for sold a plot of land we had been using for 10 yrs to Westfield shopping centre as it dead opposite.

They started digging it up and had to stop for a while after finding a massive un-exploded bomb under our office old floor.

Vietnam also has lots of unexploded land mines. They have fatalities and life changing injuries there regularly. As you say, one of the sad legacies of war.

The Vietnamese government estimates that around 14m tonnes of ordnance, nearly three times that used by the Allies in the second world war, was dropped on Vietnam between 1959 and 1975. Between 10% and 30% of it failed to detonate. According to the most recent official figures, explosions caused by buried bombs and mines claimed around 105,000 civilian victims between 1975 and 2007. In total, the Vietnamese government estimates that around 15% of the total surface area of the country is contaminated by unexploded ordnance (UXO). For Quang Tri, nestled as it is on the wartime division between what was North and South Vietnam, that contamination is closer to 84%. What that means for the families in its many farming communities is that a war they did nothing to start and knew little about has never really ended

Unfortunately during the time of war lots of areas can be seeded with ordinance, some like the Falklands done quickly and not mapped out so when it over neither side willing to pay the expenses of having it cleared. As in the case of Bosnia it took 20 yrs to clear most of the mines but all nato mine clearance has stopped

London and France

Farmers in Bekgium and Francecstil regularly find shells when ploughing the old WW1 battlefields . The French and Bekgian Armies still have permanent ordnance disposal troops on deployment.

There is still munitions claiming lives from the first world war in some places of France.

There is still a ruddy great big mine under the Messines ridge that didn't go up in 1917 that is going to go bang at some point in time probably.
