PAISLEY

Heavy smoker throughout his life. A sad loss indeed. Second best player I saw in flesh.

Newcastle and Gateshead

legend... the dutch teams of the 74 and 78 world cup were one of the best never to win it....

i spent my younger years trying to perfect the crueff turn... failed miserable and became a plodding midfielder....

great player, great manager....

All of us kids in the 70s idolised him .... A true genius and a great loss .

on the road to nowhere in particular

Great exponent of total football and the mastermind behind the success of Barcelona from his time there to the present day.

Not so sure about his managerial skills though. He tried to play Gary Lineker as a winger.

Actually it was on the radio, he gave up smoking in 1990 after heart surgery

Fantastic player though, one of the best lost to a horrible disease

Canterbury

Took a stand against the Argentinian junta's human rights record and refused to go to the 1978 World Cup.

Not just a great player and manager, but also a true giant.

Cannock

Shame he never got to lift the world cup but came very close to it. A great player and a sad loss to the world of football.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I was never into football (I'm still not but I know a bit more now) but in the early '80s I found out a lot about Johan Cruyff.

I was temping and got an assignment to do the audio typing for a script for a football video being made to teach Americans to play. It was broken down into sections about different players. I learned about the Cruyff manoeuvre where he turns the ball.

I don't remember anything about any of the other players featured but I did watch the video showing his move. He seemed to be an artist on the pitch.

A fantastic footballer.
