Should the female winner in a tennis final receive the same amount of prize money as the male winner?

I don't think they should, cos a male player will play more frames and sets.

Probably, although i never watch ladies tennis as i find it boring and full of grunting.

I love watching the mens tennis though

Id say yes, why wont they? Yes men play longer matches and yes mens matches bring in more money, but hell if the shoe was on the other foot would the men like it?

Tricky one this.....

I've been playing since I was 6 and reached a good level, I coach too.

I used to love watching womens tennis as it offered a different style of play using more of the Court, guile and tactics- Martina Hingis for example. At a time when the men's game was mostly power, serve and volley based.

The Williams sisters have both saved, and ruined womens tennis, making it more physical, but to a level I'd compare with junior boys standard. Such a shame really, at least radwanska offers some variety these days.

It's hard to argue about the less sets in grand slam events -which shortens men's careers though.

Equality says they should.

But sports tends to pay based off revenue brought in.

Simple..either make the women's games longer,or shorten the men's game...both get equal pay for the same amount effort.

Would it be equal if there were seperate competitions?

If you want equality for women then surely that also be extended to everyone who takes part and pay all entrants the same

That 90s era with Graf and Hingis was great for watching but I also think why shouldn't the women use their power and finesse if it makes them better athletes?

So by that, women should get paid 3/5th of a male tennis players money....

Frankly, I couldn't care less; since I have no interest in Tennis

In many cases it isn't even 3 sets.

Quite a lot of the women's finals have only gone to 2 sets in recent years - that's very disappointing to a spectator.

They want to get the match over with as quickly as possible, but I want to watch a real battle.

On a commercial front how can they expect to be paid the same.

If the ladies matches do not generate as much revenue as the men's matches where would the money come from to paid them the same as the men?
