"Do you think we should have to pay it or should we be able to opt out of the bbc x"

I don't watch BBC so get very little return from paying it.

If it was an investment or service I would have sacked it off long ago.

one thing i do like about the license which funds the bbc, is there is no moronic adverts, only the brainwashing trailers for plays etc but they all have them now

Soon everyone will pay a communications fee,of which some will go to the beeb. Every household will have to have one,to receive any kind of communication from any media, expect newspapers.

I agree but wouldn't be against paying a nominal fee just to help continue the world news service and nature documentaries.

Are we exempt if we're wearing our tin foil hats?

Removing the licence fee would mean standards would drop to the level of Italian TV. If anyone has ever watched Italian TV they will understand.

People forget how much else that the licence fee provides including national and local radio

I rarely, if ever, watch the BBC. I begrudge the licence and would love to see it have to pay for itself the adverts. If it was a commercial business, it would have died a death years ago.

The BBC provides a broad spectrum of some of the finest programming on the planet - across the web, radio as well as television.

It's worth every penny.

And if you disagree with that, go watch US, French, German &c &c TV and tell me it's better.

We don't mind paying the TV licence, but we would never pay for a service like Sky or Virgin media. They are a complete rip off. We get just about every channel in the world and all for just £17.50 per month for broadband.

No doubt I will be in the minority... I'm happy to pay my TV licence! I'd happily live with that and freeview - but my teenage son couldn't live without Sky

If you don't want something you don't have to pay for it.

If the BBC had to be funded by advertising the revenue to other broadcasters would drop and the standard and quality of their productions also. The big picture is not as simple as not just paying the licence fee. I'm sure all the downtown abbey fans would have been happy to know there would never be a series of that type and quality ever again

I can. Me paying or not paying £20/month isn't going to make a jot of difference to him and his empire.

The licence fee pays for the arials for all companies to broadcast from ect the bbc only look after this equipment for the goverment they do charge these companies to broadcast through the network as well as charging you, only some of the licence fee goes to bbc programs.

The fee should be done away with.

Can you receive bbc through your sky box? That is why you have to pay. I don't have sky, freeview or even an aerial but as I watch bbc I still pay.

Because that's the law.

If you watch TV, on any channel, as it is being broadcast, you need a tv licence.

More than happy to pay the licence fee. The BBC produces some fantastic shows. The licence fee also supports Channel 4 as well.

I'm biased as listen to their radio plus rate the tv production.

And prefer it to advert driven channels.

Don't be easily swayed by neoliberal agendas to change it.
