Years ago as part of a large group of chums, I took the default role of the 'funny fat one', part Bridget Jones, part Miranda Hart. Another of our group was a chap called Phil, we got on famously and were like a daft double act. As we were both single, the rest of the group perpetually tried to match make (frankly bleugh, that would have been too weird as I knew him far too well).

One night over cocktails, he uttered the immortal line "Rest assured, if you were a couple of stones lighter, I probably would" - not sure what irked me more, the reference to my undoubtedly excessive poundage or the "rest assured" bit, like I'd been losing sleep over it!!! Never have I hollered the words "Quick, cake, I need more cake" in more urgency!

When I turned up at a friend's in a denim jacket "oh! Are denim jackets back in fashion?"
