Another upsetting story in the papers today about a dad that killed his children. Why do they feel the need to do that?

presumably because theyre mentally unbalanced at the time, it happened in our street years ago, i think its because they cant see how their kids lives will go on without them, the ultimate selfishness.

until you are in that place where that is the ONLY option that you see wil work there is no way you can understand why they do it

it is very sad when anyone choses to take another persons life, but taking a childs life heightens our emotions about the act

I would imagine they are in total despair and can see no light at the end of a very dark tunnel to resort to harming their kids.

Can't start to consider the pain this must cause for the families left behind.

I am not gonna judge the fathers as I wont know the circumstances behind it.

god bless all concerned

Couldn't agree more View!, god knows the depths of depair these people (Men and Women actually) find themselves in.

Ridiculous to lay the blame at Men when many Mothers have been known to do exactly the same thing.

"But more men then women"

I'd like to see your research on that.

I think you'll find far more women kill their children than men. Usually down to some form of PND. It's swept under the carpet newswise tho.

i cannot and don't think i ever will understand that one. I would give my life to protect my children and cannot see any reason whatsoever to murder anything so innocent and precious. (Teenagers are of course an exception. Lol)

Im no expert and will probably be proved more than wrong here......But in the majority of cases that I have read about men kill their children because they're usually going through a divorce or separation from the mother so they take away whats most precious to them

It isnt just fathers its also mothers, in fact more stories of mothers killing, neglecting or standing by wathing new partners stories come to my mind than dads. Its all very tragic and noone knows what place the person is at the time of doing it. Unless someone has completely "lost their mind" noone can imagine it what its like unless they have been in such a position

There are also those men who cannot bear to be parted from their children or stand by and watch another man take over their upbringing. I would imagine some take the children's lives and then their own, or attempt to take their own in a bid to keep their children with them forever.

Thats very true,I should have said that too but got stuck on the ones that do it out of spite and thats not always the case

I agree. I think all the posts that state we cant begin to understand the depths of their despair, are being very kind to these individuals. Its one thing to be in ur own 'hell' and want to die, but quite another to 'take ur kids along with you'

If I recall something I read once... men are more likely to take the total wipe-out approach.... wife, kids, pets.

Women on the other had are more likely to leave their kids safe at home.... whilst they fuck off for two weeks holiday with Ricco the Spanish barman they pulled over the internet.

I don't want to empathise with evil acts!

I think it's easier to say someone was "in despair" etc rather than accept some people are just plain evil. I remember years ago a woman called Susan Smith. Blessed with two beautiful sons, she straps them into their car seats and drives the car into a river. Then claims a black man hijacked her car! Why did this wicked woman kill her kids? New boyfriend didn't want to be a daddy: her kids were in the way!

Angela Yates drowned her five children: her I do feel sorry for as the evidence showed she was suffering PND: such a sad, tragic case.

Parents killing their children: truly tragic.

I think if you can separate the person from their behaviour it's possible to empathise with the despair of a parent who is driven to such an act, whilst not condoning the act itself.

Yes there are probably some who have ongoing mental health problems, but generally I suspect it is deep-rooted pain of a break-up or equivalent that pushes them over the edge to do something so inconceivable to those of us not in their situation.
