"Lots of people claim to have a good sense of humour, and it's generally a positive trait, but what exactly is humour? It seems to me that many jokes, and things we find funny are very often derived from negativity (like slipping on a banana peel/Del Boy going to lean on the bar and falling through it), so is humour attractive, because it highlights a persons ability to draw positives/pleasure/amusement from otherwise negative/destructive circumstances?" No. It is just funny.

I don't know about anything else you have to say but I do know God must have given you sense of humour to help you deal with hulking that thing in your avatar around

"I like humor that shows intelligence. In order to joke about something in a witty way you usually have to be intelligent enough to understand it, and to twist it into something funny. So that's the type of humor I find atractive because I like intelligence, but not someone who us always serious. It doesn't really depend on positivity or negativity. -Courtney " Oh, and Trigger made a face. I have never found Delboy falling though the bar funny, OP.

I think you over analyse it too much if something is funny you laugh at it. Does it really matter if it's laughing at something positive or negative?

"I like humor that shows intelligence. In order to joke about something in a witty way you usually have to be intelligent enough to understand it, and to twist it into something funny. But what is it which grants the identity of something being funny or humorous?" Our brains. Someone will probably be able to tell us why some laugh at slapstick or stand up or situation comedy. They all boil down to your senses and your brain.

But what is it which grants the identity of something being funny or humorous?" I get what you're saying, and I honestly would need to think about it a lot more to get at exactly what makes something funny for me, but it isn't necessarily negativity. Think about puns, irony, or sarcasm. These are just some forms of humor that don't necessarily rely on negativity. Slapstick comedy can be somewhat negative, but as I mentioned, I don't necessarily find it funny. Some is, some isn't.
