Do many people do this anymore?

Ive just written a letter to someone by hand and I can't remember the last time I did this apart from adding update notes to christmas or birthday cards to people that I hav'nt seen for a while

I can't remember the last time I received one either and I think thats a bit sad really

So many other forms of communication around.......we won't be finding bunches of love letters in anyones attics in years to come,we'll only find them if we know the passwords to their computers

I write every now and then to my grandchildren. I enjoy it. Got to be honest tho ....it's so easy to log on to e mail while im here and whizz off a few lines and no posting.......

I lament the change but if e mail wasn't so handy I wouldn't do it.

Soon .... we will have to pay for each e mail.....

1992..I wrote a letter to my mates mum who had just lost her husband.

If it wasn't for betting shops i'd rarely pick up a pen

I love to get handwritten letters... and I always write to both my Dad and my Little sister, as neither will join the modern age and get a pc.. My dad does not even have a mobile.

I get about 3 letters a week from each. My children also write to their granddad..

I love to write proper letters too.. and will on occassion write instead of emailing.

However, emailing has its advantages. My brother lives over in Western Austrailia and it used to take weeks to have a convo.. now I send him a message when I go to bed.. and I normally get up to a reply.

Also when work keeps Master away, we email lots and its lovely to wake up to a nice email... Master would be home before I ever got hand written ones. lol

Katie. x

My lovely and I used to write notes and letters to each other and find novel places to put them.

Most embarrassing was when I entered the house with my mother and found a trail of A3 sheets of paper with all sorts of things about what he intended to do to me and instructions on how to be ready waiting for him when he got home. The paper 'path' led from the front door to the bedroom door.

Even though we lived together and very often worked side by side in our office we would still use snail mail and post love letters to each other.

Would love to both send and receive hand written letters, but sadly, those days are gone.

We communicate in a different manner now.

I'm not sure I can still do joined up writing to tell the truth.

I love the ritual of selecting which paper I will use to write on, I still have a fountain pen and I still take great satisfaction in writing letters.

Witty, elaborate, humorous.......my kid's teachers love his 'sicky notes'

I think thats so lovely to be able to keep letters like that

I have lots of letters from friends and boyfriends from my teenage years and to read them, look at the pictures that came with them and the little drawings on them brings back a massive rush of wonderful memories of those times when I was about to become an adult and had everything ahead of me

Rob went through a stage where he used to text me poems all the time, not all lovey dovey, some were hilarious and some were utter filth but I copied them all into a little book as I had too many to keep on my phone

Im too nostalgic today

*goes off to ponder what to wear at the weekend instead*

I still write a lot of things by hand. I post letters to a friend who moved to Australia and we still do the hand written letters as well as email. She is a writer though and values things like that.

Now that my lovely is with me no more, ever letter, every card, every daft drawing and every silly thing he sent or wrote to me I still have to read over.

Except the valentines day bunch of bananas he posted to me once......I ate them.

Anyone remember when sitse like this did not exist and you had to do swinginging by snail mail; from an ad in a 'specialist magazine' and include an SAE

took weeks to arrange a meet,

and some moan these days that they cannot get a meet within a day or so,

they bever had it so good

I only write condolence letters by hand these days.

It's the letters I used to get made up from letters cut out of newspapers and glued together that I miss.(Shouldn't have ignored them either, then my sister wouldn't be missing her ear. Ho hum)

I like writing letters too. I don't do it nearly as often as I should. Although I've started writing a journal, it's sort of in the form of a letter to someone and I'm loving it.

I do write to one of my swingy friends and she writes to me. I might actually be inspired to do one of those today.

I am guilty of sending nonsense in the post though. I have a stash of rude cards in my drawer at work and take notions to send them. Maybe I'll do that today too!

Silly people never learn and keep telling me where they live!!

Hand written letters also take more thought about what you are saying, and canot be previewed and revised unless you start agiain.

My ex is over in Afghan and i write to him daily.. think handwritten letters are more personal. Its nice to sit down at the end of a day and write things down.

I seldom hand-write any letters or cards nowadays, as my handwriting is really bad and not at all easy to read!
