manchester & NI

So it seems that in England, parent governors are to be scrapped and all schools are to become academies with no connection to the LA.

It feels like more of the community strings are being cut.

The secondary school I went to was demolished and replaced with a state of the art academy, they don't take any shit in regards to standards.

Wish my school had the facilities available to the students there now.

Just around the corner

Academy status was original 'enforced' on schools assessed to be persistently failing. now every school will be an academy. Go figure.

Academies are not all bad... Depends who u have running them....

Some take the piss and use the money to buy iPads

Others take the money and actually invest it in the departments that are failing like they should

Central

I've paid for local schools and they belong to the local community.

It's another way that the ordinary person is being ripped off. I also believe that we're being ripped off as it's local communities that will have to pay for the local education authority to be broken up etc. Redundancies anyone?

When those high value buildings and land are just given away for nothing, that's more cancer treatment etc that could have been funded in the NHS.

It's also ideal to have regional accountability and standards.

Erm, not an equation that seems justifiable.

Surely an academy school still has standards to adhere to, but less of a drain on LA resources.

Not sure at all how this affects cancer finances.
